You could have just called me to learn the formula… jk I wouldn’t have told you.
  • @integza
I can buy a gallon of 50% H2O2 for 10 euros in a hardware store... Thats Portugal for you Ladies and Gentlemen
  • I remember back when I used to watch this channel as a kid. Things weren't exactly "formal learning' but they weren't this funny before. I must say this is a prime example of a channel improving more, alongside its audience getting older.

I'm a peroxide specialist, what you need is anaccelerant for the catalyst. You can try using some molybdate salt such as sodium molybdate and see if it makes a difference. Also you can try adding some low amounts of manganese dioxide suspended in solution. It's worth getting 50% peroxide since it's not as dangerous as what you created (which I think was grater than 60%). Peroxide reactivity somewhat increases exponentially as it gets concentrated. Also, make sure you are not using any metal firings, valvs, or parts at or near the peroxide tank. Your tank bursted because the peroxide you had concentreated was contaminated by dust and bugs, which then leads to it continuously releasing some oxygen, which then creates pressure build up in the tank, where the pressure then causes formation of heat and rise in temperature, which in turn makes the peroxide degradation faster and faster as this cycle continues = this reaction cycle was the cause for your explosion! I'd be happy to work together with you and recreate the devil's toothpaste, peroxide science and formulating with peroxide is my daily profession!

Loved the storytelling! That gun scares me, and that's coming from a guy who built a hot glue supersoaker...
  • Devil's Toothpaste is really the same as the famous Elephant Toothpaste experiment, just executed with higher concentration hydrogen peroxide. In this case, [Integza] is using 50% hydrogen peroxide combined with potassium permanganate as a catalyst.

I've worked with 90% peroxide and yeah, it can get pretty spicy. I never got any worse than a temporary white spot on my skin, though. I carefully avoided using catalysts of any sort and just treated it like any other rocket oxidizer and lit it off with a good spark-torch igniter, so you're on your own for making mere chemical reactions vs flames.

I was literally just searching for how to make devils toothpaste, thanks for doing it for me lol
  • @opera_ghost8504
"so yeah it's dangerous or whatever, but the real problem is that it's hard to get" that quote manages to sum up your entire vibe
  • @Noxa9876
I'm so glad all you science guys made a podcast together. Even nerds can be hilarious. "Mark Rober, or should I say Mars Rover?" cracked me up
  • @WaterjetChannel
The scuffed nature of the investigation web makes it 10x better. The iron man pointer, poor printing job, the knife pin... just *chefs kiss
  • @blahmonmonmon
the pouring of an “instantly flammable chemical” on your girlfriend skit was recognized and very much so appreciated
  • 7:15 This reminds me of the fueling process for the ME-163 Nazi Germanys rocket interceptor. One of the fuels for the rocket was so dangerous that it could dissolve a human. The fuels were T-Stoff (80 percent hydrogen peroxide and 20 percent water) and C-Stoff (hydrazine hydrate, methyl alcohol, and water). If I recall correctly when fueling one truck would pull up fuel then drive off and the second truck would then pull up to fuel the rocket. It was so that they didn't mix the fuels prematurely as contact with each other would ignite the fuel and explode.
  • I have enjoyed learning and watching this with my kids. though every video I'm like don't do this lol. you have made my whole family science lovers. that is not an easy task. we all hated school you make it so much fun
  • @taofledermaus
On a side note, you almost made an ME 163 Komet rocket motor.
  • @stinkygOat

  • @jacekautz2511
Great video, I couldn't imagine how much work you and Mark put in to make these videos you two are real legends!
