I understand getting low when falling backwards but when I fell backwards there wasn't any way to respond because my skates just yeeted themselves out from under me so that I was basically sitting in the air and fell straight down... I absorbed the impact with my arms though and that hurt my neck.

2:38 in my falling experience (of which I have a ton) I don’t think shoulder rolls are a good idea. Falling happens in a split second, and I wouldn’t trust myself to shoulder roll properly while gravity is kicking my ass. Think of all the damage that could be done to your head/face/jaw/neck. There was a ton of great advice in this video so thanks for that!

I just fall today and feel very brave after each fall.

Wow, it lookes so easy but it’s so hard. Still: good instruction 👍🏻
  • Nice video. Some useful tips on a topic no one really wants to talk about but is something everyone will face without doubt. I'm glad to say my instinctive fall method is the shoulder roll from my parkour days; not great for the contents of my backpack but that's easier and way less painful to replace than vertebrae. Unfortunately at times you just don't get the time to react.

I say you're correct , but when start falling down, the body is already uncontrollable at all. How to do that in a sec with in unexpected moving situation ?

These aren't good, if you fall backwards like that you can ram your tailbone on concrete, the forward roll is pretty fucking ambitious especially if you are at any speed. If you are skidding out just try to relax into it and fall more to one side. If you have pads on and you feel like you are going to fall backwards it's better to over correct and risk falling forward onto your pads than it is to fall on your butt.

You should invite Neymar to teach this lesson 🤣 He's the master Yoda of falling techniques

I fell 5 times today. I will master skating though!

Nice video. How do you fight the reflex to stick your extended arm to the back when falling backwards? I've done Judo and Jiu-Jitsu but still this happens, when I fall backwards. I dislocated my elbow twice now from quite minor falls like that.

No matter what sport you do , I feel like learning to fall properly, like really practicing it and ingraining it into your everyday would be the most beneficial thing for action sports like blading , skateboarding, skiing and snowboarding. It’s like if you wanna surf board the first step is to get comfortable swimming before you even step in a shop to buy a board.
