Triads are one of the most common chord types guitarists play on guitar with almost 75% of the chords used in songs being triads. Millions of songs use triads, so you need to know and understand how they work.

In this lesson, I’m going to address what triads are, how they look as major chord patterns and how to strengthen your ability to use & perform them all over the neck.

Using the 2-step plan (outlined in this lesson), you’ll be able to take any note along the fingerboard and assign it to become the root of an upper string major triad pattern between string 4, to string 1.

Everything begins by defining the ways major triads look on the neck, so we’re going to learn how to use a “note movement trick.” This way you’ll fully comprehend how triads can function between string 4, and string 1.

Understanding this is easy and learning how to set notes across the neck is based on a simple “fret-counting” trick. After studying this chord and note count trick you’ll have a number of options across the neck with your new triads.

To learn the sound and the chord interplay of these major triads, I’ve contributed a couple of rhythm guitar triad riffs to help apply them. The rhythm riffs will clear up any triad performance deficiencies and help avoid rhythm guitar issues.
