Published 2023-04-16
Xnito sent me their Old School Collection Helmet for testing and review. This helmet was designed for ebikes and other fast-moving electric personal vehicles. The helmet is NTA 8776 (ebike) safety certified for up to 28 miles or 45 km/h riding speeds. In this video, I go over the features and identify the pros and cons of the helmet.

@kencook4956 0 seconds ago I bought one for myself, and my wife checked it out and immediately wanted one. We've been on about a half dozen rides and both LOVE the helmet. They're lightweight and don't give you that mushroom-head look. We even took this helmet to the next level and added a Cardo Edge comms with the half-helmet boom mic and it works a treat. The front light is just to make you more visible and not any night light EXCEPT when you stop and want to look in your bag for something you don't need to grab your phone for a light to see inside. The chin strap is comfy and super easy to get on and off once you get used to it (takes using it a few times to get used to it).
  • Good information. When considering a helmet, don't look at the price, but instead ask yourself, what is my life worth? 50 years ago, when helmets first came on the market, I bought a spring-loaded helmet instead of a foam lining, made in the USA by Mountain Safety Research MSR I was T boned by a car and I flew over the top of the car and landed on my head on the pavement. The helmet absorbed to impact of the fall. Because of that helmet my children grew up having a dad. and their kids have a grandpa. The E-bike helmet looks like much thought was put into the design. Similar designs are now available for lower speeds. Six months ago, I bought a Bern helmet from REI with a similar design including the removeable visor, but with more air flow. The price was about $125 USD. More air flow means less protection. Everything in life is a tradeoff. Traveling at higher street speeds than a peddle bike means more protection to the front of the skull is needed, which means less air flow. The built in front and rear light on the E-bike helmet should be on all helmets.

Thanks for your review, These are great helmets, this is now my only helmet I wear, I feel that this is designed very well for e bikes

I agree, it looks like it would be really hot in the summer. Great review... Very thorough.
  • After years of having cheap helmets, I truly underestimated the value of a good helmet. Thank you for showing this

I don't like helmets but if I'm doing long fast downhills, I'll put one on. Through the years I've noticed chrome motorcycle helmets are cooler inside them. Would like to see more bicycle equipment companies chrome their helmets.
  • Thx for the video! I normally wear a helmet, but a standard bycicle helmet as ventilated as possible... my helmet now is from Alpina...
  • Allways good information here! Thanks for sharing. We are looking at a new helmet for tour this summer. Good to know about the poor ventilation. Also, is there a head band you (or anyone) recommend for absorbing sweat? I tried many products and have always gone back to a cloth rag.
  • Good day Agnieszka! Excellent review. When you have some time, can you show us how you shot the segment from 2:58-3:03 with the ā€œmystical invisible selfie stickā€? I have seen this in some of your other videos. Very impressive. Thank you!

Iā€™ve flown over the handlebars of my bike too many times to risk my noggin without a helmet. I currently have a Bontrager Starvos Wavecell that fits well. I just wish I had bought the neon yellow version to enhance visibility. I have the white version.
  • Is it comfortable?we all love to watch your vlog desperately.šŸ˜Š
  • Great review! I didn't know that there was different helmets for ebikes. What did you use to film this video?

Good review, nice helmet with some useful lights, although they could be a bit brighter perhaps. But the price is a bit high for me. My current helmets? I ride with helmets that offer additional cover to the back of the head. One is a Decathlon Van Rysel helmet that I like because there is a clip at the back for one of Decathlons rechargable bike lights. My favorite helmet is a Monca brand (maybe not available in N America) MTB helmet. I like the Monca becuase it has both a sun peak and a visor, you can attache one, or the other, or both. It is a magnetic snap on visor, not a flip up or slide version. I find the visor useful for cold wind days, or blowing sand/dust. The helmet comes with two visors, once clear, one black. Under my helmets I generally wear a UV protection fishing hat with peak, face veil and neck cover. This gives good UV protection and stops me swallowing bugs. NB I cannot use the visor on the Monca wearing a peaked cap.But I use the visor for winter riding only.
  • I usually wear a helmet, but not always especially in the summer. I find they donā€™t have enough of a visor to keep a low sun out of my eyes. In winter, I have a helmet with a tinted face plate I can slide into place. Itā€™s nice but does get too hot when Iā€™m pedalling across a frozen lakeā€¦.but too cool to take it off. The one you featured might be a good compromise esp with a liner if I find it too cool without one.
  • I love the lights. I have long hair. How comfortable is this with a pony tail? I hate wearing helmets because of the lump at the back of my head. I rarely when helmets because of the discomfort. An exception is when mountain biking. Riding the forest is a constant fall hazard.
