im not even japanese and this song became so iconic here in the states for asians. I dont remember where i heard this song but it has stuck with me for over 15yrs

I first heard this song over 25 years ago while watching Majo No Jouken for which it was the theme song. I was so emotionally moved by this song that I was brought to tears. Mx Utada’s artistic musical gifts of songwriting, composition, and singing transcend language. She is very much a reflection of her father and late mother and their artistic gifts. And like her mothers singing , Hikaru’s voice has and underlying tone of sadness even in to upbeat, warm, happy ballads. Her songwriting and composition of all her songs is nearly unheard of in todays music industry and reflects the magnitude of her artistic gifts. It would seem that her musical artistry is her primary outlet and means of expressing and coping with her challenges that she faces on her life journey . It’s not easy being “famous”. And the pressures that I’m sure she faces may very well make her feel quite alone with it being difficult for her to know whom she can truly trust and confide in.
