Predator 3500 Inverter Generator DIY wheels

The shaft arbors I used are Amazon number ASIN: B08695BLZ3 the 1/2 inch by 5/8 thick long version make sure you get long.

The wheels I used were Harbor Freight sku 47638.

I used 3M 5200 sealant around the wheel shafts, spacers and threaded locking pin. This should keep the vibrations from loosening anything.

If you want to use the plastic or solid rubber wheels you will need to the smaller diameter arbor extensions.

I did not reuse the lock as it vibrates so much in the original form and in the new wheels that it is louder than the generator. If I have to worry about the generator rolling away I can place the tow rope around one of the wheels.

These wheels do seem to make the generator sound smoother and you don’t feel as much vibrations.

I used two one 1 inch neodymium magnets JB welded to the bottom (outside) of the crankcase to pull any magnetic fibers to them. I then covered the magnets with 3M 5200 to prevent any oil or fuel from damaging the JB weld. While this is not as handy as a magnetite dip stick, I don’t trust them enough. Also, the magnets were 2 dollars and I had the JB weld. This is the same set up used on many transmissions and engines which create a lot more metal than this little engine with what I am assuming are a bunch of plastic gears anyway.

So I figured out a solution the the 1/2” threads running through the 5/8 axle bearings. I went to Lowe’s and got (4) spacers. They are 1/2” inner diameter to 5/8”!outer diameter by 1 -1/2” long. It fits perfectly and completes the job

Hello I just wanted to Thank you for the video you saved me money and back pain. now I have a 4X4 generator lol.

Well, I bought the “long version” and the Hillman spacers and noticed 2 things 1. Only one set screw, the inner one, will catch against the HF wheel shaft. In order to get the 2nd set screw to catch you’ll need cut off 1/2 and inch from the non-threaded side of the adapter and the sleeve it cones with. Or you can live with just one set screw catching. 2. The wheels are pretty far out. If you cut the half inch off the non-threaded adapter (see #1) it’s a little better but if you cut more you’re back to only 1 set screw catching, the outer set screw.

Hey thank you for sharing this video, I was stuck on which arbors on Amazon to order. This mod really made a huge difference from the stock wheels. 👍🏾

The last thing I want is pneumatic tires and have to tend to them all the time but I see where they could be useful for some applications. Going larger for sure but not pneumatic.
  • @drider43
Would have been nice to see how the arbor extensions were fitted instead of just 4 minutes of an orange tire
  • Thanks for sharing your great engineering solution good job 👌
  • Underinflate them. Just fill them with air until they are barely functional. If ya go the full 30 PSI like is listed on the sidewall you'll get tread separation and real quick.
  • Thanks for the video, I'm going to upgrade my wheels like this. Are the threaded portions of these arbor extensions 5/8"? I'm having trouble finding the long ones with the thicker thread portion... and I can't find the Amazon number you provided...

Problem is the pneumatic tires from harbor freight leak air & disintegrate over a few yrs, I just replaced my wheel tire combo on my 4000PSI power washer with the harbor freight solid tire version, hopefully lasts longer than a couple of yrs.

ugh, best idea, worst video. finally found the parts though. thanks
  • Simple and a really good looking set up. Are the shaft arbors in the video the same length as the ones you bought? The ASIN is not the same as that listed in your specs.. Thanks and keep up the common sense videos, love them!
  • Hello and thank you for sharing your great engineering solution. I am also stuck on selecting the correct arbor extension as the “long one” on Amazon has a 1/2” threaded side (too small for a 5/8” wheel). Can you please clarify? Thank you.
  • @MrKeithw124
how bout including links . thanks will be a great help
  • I can't find the correct arbor shafts.amazons were too short..harbor freight don't have them can u send me a link to exactly what shafts u used thankyou
  • @edwardsmith169
Great idea thanks for the video. How much wider does this make the generator with the new wheels?
