When I first started out as a dental assistant years ago, I could never remember the Amalgambond instructions by heart. So I came up with this story to help me remember, and I rehearsed the story in my head for each and every procedure. It was really helpful because I did not have to look at the instructions each time or ask for help. This video kind of focuses on the way that the items look to help with memory because there have been times where the label was worn off and unreadable. I hope that this helps everyone out the same way that it helped me. Y’all have an amazing day at work and school!

Alright, so we have to imagine that this is a football game, and split this group into 2 teams.

First we need 2 captains

So we will choose the two bottles that look identical because they are the same size and have on the same type of cap.

The bottle with the letter A (Activator) can be captain of the A-Team

And the bottle with the letter B (Base) can be the captain of the B-Team.

Since the A-team has more skill,

then the largest bottle (Adhesive Agent) qualifies to be on the A-team.

the little bottle with the light blue cap (HPA Powder) will go with the B team because it is slightly smaller than the captain.

Well look what we have here…

The A-Team sort of have matching team names

And The B-Team both have on blue helmets

The B team is going to need some extra help to go up against the A-team,

so the skinny one (Catalyst) will go on the B team to help them win.

Now we have our teams! Time to work together!

The Dentist preps the tooth (Pumice, wash, and dry the tooth completely)

The “Activator” places 1 drop in its very OWN well because he is so talented, he can work individually.

The Dentist brushes it on,

and leaves it on the DENTIN for 10 seconds (to etch the ENAMEL, it will be left on for 30 seconds)

It is then washed and dried.

The “Adhesive Agent” places 1 drop in its very OWN well because he is so talented, he can work individually.

The Dentist brushes it on

and blows air on it gently to thin the layer,

and it is left on for 30 seconds.

It is half-time, so BEGIN TRITURATION OF THE AMALGAM!

Now the B-Team is ready to work!

Since these are the instructions for “Normal Amalgam or Composite Restorations”

The “HPA Powder” will NOT be playing in this game because they do NOT need the EXTRA help.

He will be resting on the sideline.

But at least he was ready from the beginning.

Since they are not as skilled as the A-Team, they will have to share a well because they have to really work together to win!

So we are left with the captain of the B-Team: “Base” and the “Catalyst”

Since there are only TWO players on the field.

The cheerleaders direct 2 cheers to the captain.

One!

Two!

The captain (Base) places 2 drops for the 2 cheers.

The “Catalyst” twists only 1 drop into the shared well because it looks like the #1,

The B-Team’s contributions are mixed together.

The Dentist brushes the wet mixture onto the tooth prep.

At the same time, the Amalgam is packed into the Amalgam carrier.

The Dentist dispenses the Amalgam into the wet tooth prep.

And condenses it immediately while the prep is still wet

The Dentist carves and burnishes the restoration into sculpted perfection!

The winning trophy!

If this is for composite, allow the mixture to dry for 60 seconds before placing the composite.

Thank you
