*REACTION* Taylor Swift - loml

If you go back and listen, she never says that he's the love of her life, but that's how he always referred to her, even though he never followed through on any of his promises or even acted like she WAS the love of his life. But in her reflection in the aftermath, he's the loss of her life. I swear, every listen, I feel new emotions. Absolutely gut-wrenching!

She made us believe that was "Love of my life" the same way he made her believe she was the love of his life 😭

I always thought this was a little about Joe (stand up guy) and Matti (low down boy). Cinephile (Joe) Mr Steal Your Girl (Matti). Both made promises they didn’t keep and strung her along.

I took “loss of my life” to mean that with all of the promises he made and things he said she started imagining/planning their future together so when he left she lost this life that she had been planning. There is a quote that by a guy named Søren Kierkegaard that says “The most painful state of being is remembering the future, particularly the one you'll never have.” and that’s what her saying “you’re the loss of my life” makes me think of.

I think the loss is this dream of finally finding your soulmate and have the happily ever after, and then just have that dream ripped away before it becomes anything substantial. It isn't just the relationship that dies, but also all the possibilities that were connected to it and that could have lived on if they never tried to realize the relationship. I try not to speculate too much about her personal life, but the short (although long thought of) relationship comes right after the slow deterioration of her longest relationship and I would think that kind of compounds the pain. "Are they second-hand embarassed that I can't get out of bed 'cause something counterfeit's dead" is one of the hardest lines I have ever listened to from her, I sometimes get teary-eyed just thinking about it. Ugh.

Her voice is melancholy which adds to the song.

I think Taylor is at an age right now where she is feeling her biological clock ticking, she wants to have a family and somebody acting like they want it to but then making fun of that fact behind her back, and then just ghosting her after telling her they could have that, it probably felt like the loss of her life at that time because it wasn't just the dude that she was losing. Like, the dude is one thing but the promise of a lovely life together with a family, that's a whole additional thing to mourn. She was literally losing that life that she'd dreamed about with that person. I really wish people wouldn't pretend to want those things to get what they want from somebody and then just bail when they've gotten it. Its the very definition of cruelty.

It took me so many listens of this song to be able to get through it without ugly crying. I'm so glad you reacted to this song, thank you! I love your videos - all the way from Australia 😊
