As a service member who spends most of his time with HUMVs in one way or another. I can confirm it is a certified miracle it made of farther that 250 miles.

Guys today is Veteran's day And I have to say I have so much Respect for the men and women that have defended our country in vehicles like Fred. And without brave people like that I would hate to see the world that we live in. Thank you for your service.

Having had my fair share of experience in HMMWV's, I can confirm that every experience you had is shared by almost all service members. From the overheating, doors not closing, "run flats", and absolutely freezing nights spent sleeping in one, these are all spot on. It is honestly amazing that you made it as far as you did without further problems. Pushing them things past 40 mph pretty much voids any mechanical security that the HMMWV may have had before.

honestly fred is a miracle worker for making it even a quarter of that trip, i work on em for a living and they rarely get over 2000 miles on the odometer before destroying it self

Ok so a little tip from an ex-boyscout: there are these camping mattresses that have their other side covered in a foil. This foil helps keeping you warm by reflecting your own body heat back into you. Helps a ton during winter camping, highly recommend if you ever end up in a similar situation like this.

Dude! You drove that Humvee through the South West and slept in it in the snow! Humvees, no insulation, no sound deadning, no comfort what so ever!😳 You are a trooper!

I drove an up-armored humv through NYC during winter while I was in the military. As badass an experience as that was, I share your sentiment. The things are cold AF in winter, lots of scares that they'll break down on you, and you can't see sh*t out of them. Almost sent some lady in a mini cooper to meet jesus 😂

Sleeping bags are mostly rated at their “survival rating” rather than their “comfort rating.” Always go 20 degrees below what the survival rating is. So if your sleeping in 0 degrees, you want a -20 Fahrenheit bag to sleep comfortably.
