2012 Africa Cup Of Nations Final: Zambia Are The Champions Of Africa
Unfancied Zambia have won the Africa Cup of Nations after a penalty shootout victory over the Ivory Coast in Libreville, Gabon.

Didier Drogba could have won the game for the Elephants in normal time had he not blazed over a penalty awarded for a foul on Gervinho.

Gervinho then turned villain as he and Kolo Toure both missed in a dramatic shoot out that went to sudden death.

I was at work (warehouse worker) and was listening to a podcast by a famous Swedsh football journalist Erik Niva about Zambia 2012 which I knew nothing about untill that day at work,, and as I was listening all that came out through the airpod to my ear, I got soooo into it, and the moment when Zambia won the ACON, I was near to tears. Zambia is, from that moment on, my favourite football nation after Bosnia and Herzegovinam and Sweden (Because I was Born in Bosnia and living in Sweden). and I will always support them whenever they play.

Its 2024 and i still cry tears of Joy when i watch this❤ As a Zambian i remember how intense this moment was through out the game! After they scored everyone in Zambia run out of their houses into the streets people were hugging each other strangers hugging in the streets in the middle of the night!!! It was wild i am telling you the time was around 01:00 am, but people were outside most of them didn't return home until the next evening celebrating through out the time. When the team return hundreds of thousands of people lined up the street from the airport to the venue, just to wave and celebrate with the Chipopolo boys❤❤❤❤

  • RIP Tiote. That thunderous strike against Arsenal still lingers in my memory.
  • My blood pressure became high when kalaba missed that winning penalty. I lost hope and quit watching and went to bed. I resurrected when I heard giovinio had missed and we had another chance to win. And suñzu never disappointed. In the end its a happy memorable moment. The joy still feels like it was yesterday. Herve Renard, Christopher katongo, Kennedy mweene, kalaba, suñzu, Emmanuel mayuka and the entire national team u surely made us proud. This day will forever remain with us in our hearts. You are true heroes.
  • It is still a moving game till this moment. Even though Cote D'Ivoire is my neighboring country I supported Zambia despite beating Ghana. They earned it!
  • As an Ivorian it's taken me ten years to watch this again. Looking back, the screams that erupted as the Zambia's winning penalty was scored are chilling. Well done both sides. Vive la Cote d'Ivoire and congratulations and continued success to Zambia.

That Ivory Coast team was scary! Drogba, Eboue, Toure, Tiote, Gervinho, Yaya Toure, I never understood how they didnt go far in world cups. This is one of the best african lineups ive seen...
  • This moment made me so happy, we ran through the streets and danced. Seeing how we unite over the things we love moves my heart.

  • This was so cool. We were considered underdogs in this match, nevertheless, team work paid. Zambia really deserved to win this game. Awesome performance indeed, from the first game to the last. We were solid. Memories, memories memories. As Zambians we shall forever treasure this moment. I was there when we conquered AFRICA. Zambia the Champions.
