It's absolutely insane that historical footage can be copyright claimed
  • @zettour.
Fun Fact: Just two* years* prior to the North Hollywood shootout, the movie Heat released. A common criticism of Heat among law enforcement had been that the shootout scene with the armed suspects was "unrealistic" because it was believed that robbers would not be that heavily armed nor willing to fight police head on. The North Holly shootout would prove all that wrong.

For those who don't know, Emil and Larry's strategy of covering each other to move forward to the parking lot is a tactic taught in the US Army. It's called bounding and it's used to either force the enemy to retreat, or to allow riflemen to get close enough to engage and kill the enemy. So, they were using real life Military infantry tactics against the police.

My mom worked as a bank teller in the early 80s in a city just outside of LA. They had a regular that would pull up in a red mustang and rob the place every once in a while.
  • “He tried to remove someone’s head because he thought it was funny.” Truly a man ahead of his time.

Were any banks robbed while the 300 cops were dealing with this? What a perfect time for a bank robbery on the other side of town.
  • @annoy4nce648
It's crazy to me that multiple documentaries got so many facts wrong, considering that, as you mentioned, it's one of the few bank robberies almost entirely caught on camera.

37:15 the police weren’t being respectful of the shooter, they were trying to hide the body so any civilians wouldn’t see him. I had a friend die in a car accident and the person who’s house was next to the crash site was asked by police for a blanket to cover the body so the other people in the car who survived and anyone else wouldn’t have to see the body.

Something about Wendigoon calmly talking and suddenly pulling put a gun just out of frame is alwayss so funny to me

The craziest thing about this shootout was the news reporter who was casually reporting from behind a car while the shooters were actually shooting at him. Note, a 7.62x39mm will punch through and out the other side of a car. The only thing that will sufficiently stop the bullet is the engine block. Mans strait up was in the line of fire and didn’t care.

This happened down the street from us and was the bank my grandma used. Bank robberies really were so common that even after this, she was annoyed at not being able to go that day. I remember being too young to understand why the bank suddenly had tons of bulletproof glass installed inside, and still to this day is decked out more than a lot of other banks in the area.

imagine being one of the people that were working in a bank and have to explain to 24 different robbers that, "im sorry sir but the first guy got to it all at 7 am you probably should of gotten here at 6:30 or 5 to actually get something out of your trip, the exit is that way sorry for the inconvenience"
  • @Zain-fu9zp
'So while not 28 individual bullets, im still sure he was having a terrible time.' Wendigoon would've made a great reporter
  • @gaamesso8002
30:44 "He pulls out a third and previously unused AK" This really is like something straight out of GTA
  • @3RAN7ON
41:47 officer boxer briefs reporting for duty! 😅 Dude probably heard the call over the radio and went ASAP! What a stud
  • @k1ssmyfast
This reminds me of the guy who snapped and turned his bulldozer into a tank and had a war with the cops in his city. Wendigoon I’d love to see you do a video on this. The story itself is pretty crazy and kinda sad.

"And the housekeeper, who was from South America, said he was being a wuss because this happened all the time where she's from." As a Brazilian, I felt that.
  • I was actually home sick when this happened with a massive fever. Was absolutely surreal to watch this happen live on T.V. Come to think of it, I was rarely sick as a kid but it seems like whenever something screwed up happened in the 90s I was home sick and ended up watching it on the news. Rodney King, the last day of Waco, the Oklahoma City bombing. All watched live on T.V.
