Andy "Rebirth" Pellerano is a former soldier for the Almighty Latin King Nation, or Latin Kings, one of the largest and most dangerous prison and street gangs in the United States.

Business Insider talks to Pellerano about how members are initiated, what the gang's codes are, and how he got the green light to leave the organization. He covers the rivalry with the Crips and The Folk Nation, and the "Bloodline" allegiance with the Bloods in the prison system. Pellerano was based in New Orleans, where the gang spread to from their home base in Chicago. He discusses how the Latin Kings ran a drug-trafficking network, and other types of crime such as robbery and extortion.

Today, Pellerano is an evangelical minister and musician. He uses hip-hop and rap to give his testimony to young men and to redeem other former members of the Latin Kings.

This is the best "interview" I've ever listened to. That man is very articulate and I'm glad he's actually a good father and turned his life around.

That guard that let him hold his child will never know how he changed this man’s life. One small moment of grace and boom

I was a former latin king myself and did 10 years in prison. Fast forward into my life I'm now proud owner of a large trucking company operating in 30 states,Mexico, colombia and Puerto rico with 80 workers mostly latin kings who I help along the way to become part of society and help a total of 27 purchase their first home and business. Im here as a great example of how you can change your life and leave the street life ❤

  • "I don't get cleaned up like I've never been dirty" damn what a bar. Glad he's changed his life and is now helping others do the same.

Seeing how emotional he got when he realized how hard he was hurting his daughter (and family) hit me. Much respect to this man who reevaluated his life then and there. I'm not even a religious person, but I'm a believer in you do what makes you a better person... doesn't matter to me how you get there.
  • Almost 10 years of my life I was a king. In my neighborhood you were either Latin king, blood or DDP. There was a couple trinitario sets, but we all beefed with them after they killed one of my close friends at just 16 years old. My family were kings so it was just a normal thing to us growing up. It wasn’t always violence, wasn’t always war, but when it was bad it was really bad. Alot of the times we were just a family keeping each other safe, uplifting each other and trying to find ways to make legal money rather then just on the streets. But eventually all that changed. I learned a lot that shaped me into the person I am today. Eventually it just got to the point where it wasn’t all about being a family anymore and it was constant beef with other blocks. Everyone was losing people left and right. Some of us just grew out of it and moved away to better ourselves. The homies that didn’t are sadly not here anymore.. I got stars all over and the set tatted on me. Also was an idiot and tatted under my eye so im stuck with that mark for ever. Reminds me everyday to keep my kids on the right track and go hard for this legal money so they never have to end up in that environment ever again.

"Every saint has a past and every sinner a future"
  • When he talked about the prison guards, giving you no choice to be violent was super enlightening
  • @unknown183
That's just too much work. I'll just remain friendless.
  • I'm glad this young man turn to our king above. He listen to everyone in need. He also teaches us lessons in life. I wish that all now young adults need to hear what's out there in life in the streets. Hats off to you and wish you lots of luck. We needs more like you thanks again. Bless you 🙏

"but man, god intervened". - Andy Pellerano People can turn their life around and dont even know it. One second, one moment, that's all it takes. You can still do good I promise you. Leave violence behind. Embrace love and unity. We are all humans after all. Same family, one blood, one people.
  • @jprov

  • @Alarcon664
How he talked of holding his baby shows how good a dad he is and how big his heart is. Every man should love their children!!!
  • @nate4nate5
