This is a series about bikepacking from Santa Fe to Las Cruces on the New Mexico Off Road Runner. In this episode, we make our way to Truth of Consequences (and bathe in mineral waters) and then onward into the hot deserts where we encounter a big ol rattlesnake. Did you all get notifications when this video was released? I'm hearing from a ton of subscribers that they aren't getting notified :(

There is beauty in the emptiness, and the quiet of the desert.
  • No trees at Elephant Butte - I hated camping there as a kid for that simple reason. My dad loved boats and jet skis and we would stay there for a week in a tent. All I wanted was shade from a tree. No amount of sun screen seemed to protect me from the sun.

The hotter the temps! The faster they move! Snake 🐍!

Wild wild west theme! Conrad approves! Just don't knock his shoulder battery off!
  • Coachwhip snake on the road with a mouse lump in it. Fast fast!!! My dad called them “road runners”
  • Headwinds: tail wind coming at your face. Uphills: downhills coming at your face. Pain: weakness leaving the body. And stuff like that.

Wonderful video, Ryan. The Southwestern Desert is so beautiful. Safe travels on the Tour Divide. If you return back to Boulder through Las Cruces or El Chuco post it and I'll try to catch up to you. Stay groovy.

Truth or Consequences! The first this I found interesting when moving to NM was some of the cool city names! Good tip on washing your legs off. Never thought of doing that. Here in Oregon we have bloodsucking gnats. They're horrible, worse than mosquitoes.
