I have never brushed my teeth in such an epic way before

I played this in the car with my friend and a week later he texted me "yo what's that aphex twin song with all the beeps" and I knew exactly what he was talking about lol

I think I just realized why this sounds so good. If you focus your attention on the offbeat acid lead, the rest of the song just drifts back and forth in your ears. It sounds so nice and feels like letting the ocean waves carry you on the beach.
  • I’m 106 years old and before my wife died her last dying breath was the URL to this video
  • I've known Aphex Twin probably since I was 17-18 but never gave it much attention back then (was more into hard rock and metal) in my mid 20's I started getting more and more into alternative electronic music and such (EBM etc) and later I've started delving into more pureform stuff like techno, sidetrance etc... Now Im kinda appreciatting this artist a lot more than just the bizarre videoclips... I just turned 39

How can so much emotion emerge from these simple rhythmic fractions interweaving !

Remember listening to this right after watching The Beatles ended their last live tour in 1966. A long haired, tall man passed me this odd looking gadget and pressed play. It was nothing like what I had heard before.

  • I recorded this into Pro Tools to work out what was happening. The amazing innovation [Edit September 2021: by 'innovation' I don't mean it's never been done before, I just mean 'cool element'] in this track is that the main acid loop that comes in at 0:30 is a nine sixteenths loop - i.e. rather than running for the standard 2 beats (eight sixteenths), it adds an extra sixteenth. This is the main driver of the glorious disorientation of this track. The beauty of the start is how the orderly metre of the pads comes to be dominated by the off-kilter acid loop when it enters, but the acid loop in turn is dominated by the drum loop. There's more to say about the rest of the track, but you get the gist. Edit August 2021: In the replies below, Audio Maverick asked this question: What are you talking about? Is the loop an extra 1/16th longer than the other loops? Do you mean the loop itself is longer in duration or has an extra 16th crammed with in it like a polyrhythm? Here is my reply - I think it adds to my original comment: Yes, the acid loop is 1/16th longer than the other loops (in real time). And importantly, the 16ths in the acid loop are the same length of time as the 16ths from the rest of the track. The notes in the acid loop come on the following steps: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6-7, 8-9 (the 6-7 and 8-9 notes are tied). But the really cool thing is that when the acid loop first comes in, the brain doesn't register it as being a 9/16ths loop as such, but as a normal 8/16ths loop. We tap our foot once at the start of the loop and again in the middle of the loop, but, the second tap falls between the 5th and 6th step. Sooo... In this sense, the loop also has an extra 16th crammed into it. Both perspectives are correct. How fucking damn cool is that? ... The success of this comment is rapidly turning into the highlight of my life. It's up there with the time I won the costume contest at a screening of the Big Lebowski - as decided by audience applause - when I dressed up as Marty when he was performing his dance quintet.

This is what made me like the electronic music. My story starts right here.

A while back this is what got me into Aphex and electronic in general - this blew my fucking mind when I heard it. He's now one of my favorite artists despite me branching off into a bunch of different genres. Still love this EP - one of his most underrated!

Been listening to this man’s music for over 15 years now and still can’t figure out what it is exactly that makes his tracks speak to your heart in such a special way. Do know though that there will never be another RDJ.
  • @JohnVance
I can see, hear, smell, taste, touch that album art
  • @VincentH1989
I listen to this song just to hear 2:55-3:15 sometimes. Makes me tear up if I hadnt listened to it in a while. Aphex is one of the only artists that affects me like that.

When you discover Aphex tunes years after their release 😊
  • @Blerwerler
If you told me 20 years ago that the Dude that made ‘Rubber Johnny’ would be who you listen to falling asleep, I’d probably be doubtful and very afraid.

I think Apex Twin is an electronic music genius! I am delighted with his music, I have been watching closely what he creates for years. I found a lot of Aphex Twin's albums. I am listening with delight. Great!
