In Episode 2 of Permaculture Tours, we visit Melliodora, the beautiful home of David Holmgren and Su Dennett in Victoria, Australia. David is the co-originator of the permaculture concept and this tour offers an insight into how he and Su have designed their home and gardens according to permaculture design principles.

Come and take a tour through the four zones that make up their 1-hectare property – vegetable gardens, fruit trees, geese, goats and chickens, a tiny house, and a very cool “cool cupboard” in the kitchen!

I was going to do this right out of high school, or grade 12. Had the money saved for a good start. Then reality, life, and others' expectations started to set in on me. So I went to college to do the "correct" thing. My life is a wreck now. Follow your gut instinct. Don't let others sway your opinion if you are set on what YOU want to do. The world needs more of these types of human habitats. May the creator and company bless you all.

Omg we are all wasting our lives. Thank you thank you Happen Films for showing us an alternative to how we were raised and told what to value - the 9-5, consuming , money, the grind etc. Absolutely this is what we should all be doing. How wonderful it would be to live sustainably and as a community sharing our resources.

10:58 "We don't need huge numbers of people to change behavior, to make a big impact. That, I think, has always been underestimated." Great statement. It reminds me of Pam Warhurst and the Incredible Edible Network's idea that small actions matter. Let's start, each of us, today.

They are soooo healthy even in their old age..... when you take care of the nature, nature takes care of you.

The best at min. 3:40 is something you can do right away: dishrack over sink, dishes dripping go directly to rack where they will dry after they are washed. So intelligent.

Su, very wise and precise and why not, Good things, when short, are twice as good: "you shouldn't think that you have to own a piece of land to feel that you're part of it and to feel duty towards that piece of land; to try to understand its needs and how they work in accordance with your needs". Really grateful to you.
  • I agree: Social Permaculture is the most important field to develop right now. Most of the technical aspects we have already dealt with. The thing now is how we get this to the public.
  • Growing up in Australia, I was fortunate to discover permaculture at a young age. David and Bill Mollison were the founding fathers of permaculture. Their wisdom and foresight has benefited and inspired so many.

I feel so emotional watching this couple. They epitomise human grace which seems buried right now as we are going through a transition in our world. I know everything will rebalance itself very soon and we can start enjoying times like this once again. Goals for me!!!
  • @MsWatchdog
what a beautiful and intelligent couple! they have really planned their land out well, and I love the fact that they don't step in each other's space... I'm so loving permaculture

we moved in our first home 2 yrs ago, and since then i have been gardening indoors and how I love how my greens have been striving even in the coldest of the winter, they take care of me and how i love taking care of them.. something about taking care of plants give you this fulfillment that no other amount of luxuries in the world could ever give you.. we are nearing to our phase of finding our forever retirement home, by 37 we will be able to finally do this - where we can permanently apply permaculture and pass this beautiful life and habitat to our young ones. thank you for showing how beautiful this life is to the world.

It takes a long time to get to this point and we could all learn from their lessons. Everyone can apply permaculture principles in their living space, even in inner city areas. A pot of veges, growing on the balcony, is a start. Some herbs growing on your window sill. Watercress growing in your bathroom. It will bring you joy !

These films inspired me ten years ago, and they continue to inspire me today.

  • @SherryStrongOne
I had the pleasure of hanging out with Su and David my last year living in the country north of Melbourne. We met at an event we were speaking at and immediately were drawn to each other's work and perspective. I have so much admiration and respect for their work and how they live it.
  • @Benyack
Seeing the comments of this type of videos always make me wanna cry and this one got me to. You can feel the power of unity being those principles and how it touches ourselves at the deepest of our beings and our needs. Love and cooperation between different species and state of beings is possible and its so wonderful to have a taste of it! Imagining this can grow more and more into something virtuous for the world and our evolution gives me such an intense feeling... Thank you so much for sharing this experience! 🙏

The permaculture folks are well spoken, thoughtful, almost philosophical people.
