    You have to be very timely with the roller to get termination, and some years it simply won't work because of rain timing or simply a lack of growth in the covers. When you roll hairy vetch, if you hear popping while you roll, you successfully broke the stem and killed it. You have to see 5 flower nodes before the plant is ready to be rolled, but it usually lines up with rye maturity. RUp and Gramoxone are still the 2 kings of killing covers. I found out this year that Sharpen and Reviton aren't good enough by themselves to get rid of cereal rye, the stuff just doesn't want to die. I haven't tried Clethodim yet, but I'll find out on a few acres in soybean post if it will do the job.
