"Pride and honor are worth FAR LESS than the oppurtunity to live, regroup, and fight another day"

Love all of the pageantry and heraldry used in feudal Japan with the flags each soldier flying above his back. Absolutely no mistaking who is friend or foe on the battlefield.
  • "OUR GENERAL IS UNDER THREAT MY LORD HE IS TOO IMPORTANT TO LOSE"

The Floating Castle (のぼうの城, Nobō no Shiro) is a 2012 Japanese historical-drama film directed by Shinji Higuchi and Isshin Inudo, starring Mansai Nomura, and adapts Ryō Wada's novel (2007) of the same name. Set in feudal Japan, the film is based on the Siege of Oshi and depicts the struggle of Oshi's villagers in defending their fortress against Toyotomi Hideyoshi's campaign against the Hojo clan. Against insurmountable odds, Narita Nagachika, the fortress's castellan, leads a group of 500 men against 20,000 men led by Ishida Mitsunari, part of Toyotomi clan's greater army of 20,000 samurai.

Hojo(Hohjoh/北条) was not a clan but a family name, and belonged to the Taira(平) clan or Hei-shi(平氏). Japanese clan name was mostly given by the Emperor. But, in the late ancient age, same clans were everywhere. So, in order to distinguish a family from the same clans, family name was created, based on the place name where they lived. Hohjoh Sakyohdayuh Taira-no Ujinao(北条 左京大夫 平 氏直) was the name of the last head of the Hohjoh family; Hohjoh/北条 was his family name. Sakyohdayuh左京大夫 was a Kemyoh/仮名, a name commonly called, that usually showed his nominal status in the court of the Emperor's. Taira/平 was a Sei/姓, clan name, that always followed by a postposition of "no" which connect in between nouns. So "no" can be a marker to distinguish the clan name. Ujinao/氏直 was his Jitsumyoh/実名, his true/real name or Imina/忌み名/諱, his name must be hidden.

My ancestor, Matsuoka Buzen-no-Kami Katsumasa, fought at this battle to defend castle Oshi, he was a brave samurai warrior and was able to survive. He later moved to the village of Otsuka and left many decendants.

The Hojo King's volcanic thunderous roar was just like that of a fearless prideful dangerous powerful lion 🦁🛐👑🔱🔥💪❤...
  • That’s pretty smart you use the rider as a solid base to steady the matchlock.

Hojo clan was relatively benevolent. They didn't overtax citizens like other warlords. It's sad to see Hojo Clan crushed.

The Toyotomi's troops suffer from terrain disadvantage... Shameful diaplay!
