Folkestone, England: Is this the UK's BEST seaside town?!

Published 2023-10-30
Join us as we explore Folkestone, a charming seaside town in Kent. This is our third visit to the area, and we're finally checking out the place our friends Jason and Josh recommended. We start our day at the harbour, where an old train station has been transformed into a vibrant pedestrian area with food and shops. We then head up the Creative Quarter, a steep street filled with independent shops, and enjoy some well-deserved cream tea. We take a walk along the cliffside and down through the zigzag path and make our way back to the Harbour Arm to try some delicious food from local vendors.

Any other places we should visit on the South coast? Leave a comment and let us know!

Theres a lot of "picturesque" seaside towns/villages in the UK. St Ives, Tenby, Whitby, Mousehole, Robin Hoods Bay, Portmeirion, Salcombe and Bamburgh. To name a few

I like how you pronounce British place names properly. I was bracing myself for "folk stone" but you got it spot on with "FOLKst'n".

The harbour wall is really nice, but where those monstrous new build apartments are, their used to be a really great amusement park. The centre of which had a listed building called the Rotunda, it was ‘accidentally!!!!’ demolished, the same guy that owned it was a very unlucky person as so many of his places caught fire over the years!!!!!. There also used to be a really good nightclub in the seafront called la parisienne.

I had a summer job on a funicular railway one year. I quite enjoyed it, but it had it's ups and downs!😂😂😂😂😐

I am so glad you enjoyed visiting Folkestone my hometown. It's a superb place and hope you return again. Hopefully in the sunshine although it's also cool when it's cloudy and windy. I enjoy your videos very much

I live in Folkestone, used to live in Falmouth where you've also been! Both are beautiful places, but Folkestone has so much going on and it's so close to London too, and France for a little day trip.

There are some lovely places along the south coast of the country. Folkestone is one I haven't yet been to and I've lived 50 miles away for decades. Thanks for the recommendation!

I loved Folkestone in my teens. Tofts, Leas Cliff Hall, The Grand, Odeon Bar and if missed bus home, tent down the Warren. Such different times. Pleased to see what they've done to it now.
  • Folkestone is one of my favourite fossil hunting spots, great for ammonites.
  • Whoa!! My childhood memories right there! My grandparents lived on the Leas on Clifton Crescent. I was born in Sandgate, just down the road. We would go down to the Rotunda Penny Arcade through the park and back up via the funicular. That was over 50 years ago. We went back recently, so I know it’s so good in Folkestone these days. Best seaside town? It’s certainly a contender. I love seaside towns! I sort of collect them by visiting. I also love estuary villages and towns.
  • I'd say that Barmouth is my very fave UK seaside town but there are so many out there... I must visit Folkestone one day, thanks for the recommend!

That new build on the beach is the one with the noisy balconies I saw on the news, apparently the wind whistling through makes this really irritating hum that's driving nearby homeowners nuts😂

Great video. Really sorry your husband rolled his ankle, that really hurts, hope he gets well very soon xx

I must admit that I've never heard Folkestone described as being 'cool'. Perhaps I should revisit at some point as it definitely looked rather run down and derelict last time I was there. Come to Eastbourne sometime if you haven't already been, but probably best in the summer. The seafront from the pier and to the west is rather nice and then the walks around Beachy Head and the cliff edge overlooking the lighthouse has some stunning views

looking forward to hearing about your travels on the continent.
