I approached the new version with trepidation. The original is probably my favorite of Jim's solo songs, precisely because it's also his hardest rocking. This version certainly serves the lyrics well, but from a different point of view. It's much like the original and unplugged versions of Layla - the original is a young man's desperation, while the acoustic version is an older man's resignation. I still prefer the original, but this succeeds on its own terms. Nicely done, guys!

I adore this so hard. Although I appreciated the lyrics in the original, I wasn't a huge fan of the musical arrangement. This version is so evocative of haunting loneliness. It's amazeballs. I like Hank's comment re: young man's desperation vs older man's resignation. Very insightful. But also, Anne's fiddle and voice fit into it perfectly.
