Cool Video, I also have no issues with running 35's with stock gears (non Rubicon). Slow and steady (but not that slow). Thanks for posting the link for the build sheets. Cheers!

My 03 4.0 5 spd on 35s is 4.88 and it’s amazing. So happy with it. Dana 44s too
  • Put a 2" lift in my womans 04 TJ Wrangler with the 4.0 , 5 sp.manual. Didn't want to over do it so I went with the 31" Goodrich whiteletters. This was a Florida Jeep and now we all reside in Texas. ( God Bless Texas ) I'm hoping I did the right thing getting 4.56's . Heading out the door to find out . They just came in . Time to get caught up on my "driveway" mechanics. Keep y'all posted . Keep on Jeepin Boys. B safe. Oh ! This buggy means the world to my lady . Like I say , I hope I did the right thing. This rig is in mint shape . The undercarriage is like new. Besides a bullet hole in the back panel , so is the top half.
  • I have a 00 4.0 5 spd with 33s and I’m pretty sure I have the same 3.07 ratio, I noticed that there’s really no difference city driving but on the highway it is a little more sluggish. You still get to speed it just takes a little longer lol

2004 Tj 5 speed manual. I’m on 33s with 4.56 gears it’s a nightmare on the highway! Around town it’s good but the beginning gears are incredibly short. By 3rd gear I’m going maybe 20-30mph. On the highway in 5th gear I’m at 65mph at 2500 rpm tapped out.. I was on empty so fast and my engine wasn’t happy. I’m thinking 3.73 will be a better fit for me idk about 4.10s. I wrote this to help save time and money for the next guy as all the forms and my research pointed to 4.56 but I’m going to change gears again with only 500miles on my new gears. Last thing I’d recommend motive gears they are super quiet and well made in my opinion.
  • Mine is Command-Trac Part Time 4WD System Dana 30/186MM Front Axle Heavy Duty Dana 44 / 3.73 Rear Axle Trac-Lok Differential Rear Axle 4-Spd. Automatic 42RLE Transmission 30X9.50R15LTB Wrangler OWL A/T Tires (in stock version) Driving 265/75 r15, which is almost 31" tires. Have bunch of ideas about mods, but due to tight budget had to put all of it on hold for now. I drew lots of "blueprints" about how do I like to see my bumpers, running boards, fenders, tire carrier, etc.
  • use your gps, / maps on your phone to tell how fast your going, to see how far your off on your speedo , 3.07 gears ,forget 5th gear on any kind of incline ,keep in mind also big tires and 3.07 gears is very hard on your trans synchronizes , also if ya regear spens the extra money to put a posi track in the back, big difference off road my regear was $ 4,500 that was all new everything
  • @Ryan-Tanner
Very helpful video. Thanks man. Was also wondering if i went up to 33s on my 4 cylinder tj and did not re gear, would it cause any engine damage??
  • @GenVirtu
Hey dude, just got my Jeep back from the mechanic this past week. My engine light came on two weeks ago. He checked it out and it turned out I needed a new catalytic converter. Among other things that my Jeep needed. it was so bad that it cracked the Exhaust manifold that was on my engine when I got it rebuilt. And yes it was expensive. 💸💸💸 Catalytic converter by itself was at least $1,000. 😩
  • @trevorturk7473
1997 Sahara with 33x12.50 Yokohama Geolander MTs and stock 3.07 gears. I haven’t used 5th gear since I’ve bought the jeep. As soon as I shift to 5th, you notice a loss of power. The ratio just don’t sustain your speed. I do live in the foothills of the mountains so it’s very hilly and that has a lot to do with it. All the shops around here charge close to 2k for complete regear and at that cost I’m just gonna go ahead and do Dana 44s
  • I have a 2004 Manual 5 speed 4L. Front Axle is a Dana 30/186mm Rear axle is a Dana M35/194 mm 3.73 Rear Axle Ratio Any thoughts / references if I can go to 35's tires?
  • @tylercook3784
I have a tj with a 350 SBC in it with 4.10 gears on stock tires and i need to get bigger tires soon... jeeps were not made to go this fast lmao
  • I drive a 05 tj with a 6 speed trans, and 4.88 gears/ 33inch tires. I can tell you that my jeep has power for days, but its killing me on gas as a daily driver. Im running a dana 44 in the rear and 30 in the front and can tell that my engine stresses alot from trying to keep up at higher speeds. I read all the forums and watched all the videos and believed that i NEEDED 4.88 gears for my size tire, but turns out that thats only needed when offroading and doing trail stuff. I will be going to a 4.11 gear ratio which is a good balance of power, speed, mpgs and rpms....Some times I wish i never changed my gears and have been hurting for the last year... :(
  • @pol1970
Nice video and Jeep! Is that stock exhaust??
  • My jeep is on 31s with a 2.5 lift I have 3.73 gears and it accelerates pretty quick and I have to shift like im drag racing lol I dont know if I should stay with 31 or go up to 33s what do you think?
  • @JoshPiercefield
It's worth noting that this is only applicable to manual transmissions. If you have an automatic and go up in tire size, regearing is basically a must. Personally I went from 3.07 to 4.11 and could never go back.
  • @bboymuggshott
For 33s you’ll be fine on 3.07s. Just gotta be careful wheeling and accelerating aggressively
