Our new LIFT artist spent the bulk of this year clocking views. From "So Done" to "Tragic" to "Without You" to "Not Sober," his work alone and in collabs with Miley Cyrus and YoungBoy Never Go Broke Again has made quite a dent in 2021's pop fabric. But The Kid LAROI's smash is "STAY," where the Aussie rapper with a love of hip-hop and a nose for hooks, connected with Justin Bieber, and had a truly massive liftoff, career-wise. It seems crazy, but members of Team LAROI could see it coming for several years now. The 18-year-old has had music in his blood since he was child absorbing the sounds his mom played at home, from Pac’s “Dear Mama” to everything Kanye West ever spit, especially the romance rhymes of ‘808s & Heartbreak.’ As a tween he was deep into hip-hop, clipping his mom’s iPhone to rap over beats; a couple years later he acted on those sounds he heard in his head on the ’14 With a Dream’ EP. Sony Australia felt the vibe, Lil Bibby’s Chicago squad followed suit, and it wasn’t long before Columbia US Chairman/CEO Ron Perry personally signed LAROI to the label – when you got skills, people find out fast. The 2020 drop of his ‘F*ck Love’ mixtape put a global spotlight on those skills. Its three distinct editions, which ultimately united him with everyone from Juice WRLD, YoungBoy Never Broke Again to Machine Gun Kelly and Polo G., blended hip-hop, pop, and energetic alt to kick the rapper up another level or two. Now he has the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Ed Sheeran and Elton John patting him on the back. Our guy is crushing it right now, and next year looks to be explosive. The January kickoff of his ‘End of The World’ tour of North American has just been announced, and after that, he moves to Europe to give fans a chance to see his stage madness.
