Three friends go searching for the endangered Atlantic Sturgeon - a giant leaping dinosaur fish - attempting to capture never-before-seen footage of breaching sturgeon in the James River. Atlantic Sturgeon can grow to 15 feet, weigh 800 pounds, and breach 10 feet out of the water. While footage exists of sturgeon in tanks and hooked on a line, almost no high-quality footage exists of sturgeon breaching as part of their natural behavior - until now.

    Nice video. The James is a pretty extraordinary river. I’ve seen one jump about 8 years ago and couldn’t believe it. I was also surprised to see the huge otters, bald eagles and hog chockers.

    Was riding seadoos on the James today with some friends and right when we got past the enon bridge a huge sturgeon jumped beside us, the smack hitting the water was loud and he had to be over 5 foot long

    I never heard of this sturgeon before. Means only one thing, the poachers know where to go now. I bet it would take at least 50 years for them to start coming back in safe numbers. Never heard of any jumping before!
