The fans and the media are solely focused on Ohtani but this game demonstrates how criminally underrated the Japanese baseball league is. Five NPB pitchers combining for one run in 7 innings against this stacked US lineup and two homers coming out of the best sluggers in the Japanese league

Trout vs Ohtani with 2 outs in the 9th, You couldn't have wrote a better script! This tournament just got me back into baseball!

Hands down the best World Baseball Classic I’ve ever watched—and the most poetically fitting ending to it! Ohtani vs Trout, Captain vs Captain, teammate vs teammate, in a 3-2 thriller!
  • both teams played awesome congrats to Japan from Mexico. 🇲🇽🤝🇯🇵

I was watching this thinking, "There's no way it's actually going to end with Trout vs Ohtani" What a game. What a tournament. Can't wait for 2026!

Many of the American’s excuse of why they lost was because they didn’t have their “best” pitchers out there playing. That’s somehow Japans fault?! Would they say the same if US had won? I don’t think so.

Also as an American, i can say that Nobody deserved it more than our Japanese friends. Congratulations Japan.🇯🇵🇺🇸

Guys, I will be honest with you all. I grew up breathing baseball - I mean playing it at the park, watching the pros every night, devouring the box scores in the morning paper, studying all the strategy, the stats, the beautiful history of the Bambino, Teddy Ballgame, Jackie, all the way up to Griffey, Jeter and Chipper in my childhood. Well, I admit I have fallen away. I hate, hate some of these rule changes like the random extra inning base runners. I sigh at the expense of the games, concessions, apparel. I am mad at all the anti-dramatic strikeouts, walks, solo homers and guys not stealing bases and putting the ball in play. I’ve stopped watching a few years back, because I’ve felt they’re trying to turn baseball into something it isn’t supposed to be. Baseball is cerebral: its drama comes not from an overstimulated race against a clock, but rather from one’s imagination of the endless possibilities, the hundreds of parallel strands that just might all somehow weave together. But tonight - Samurai Japan vs. Team USA. Ohtani vs. Trout. How can you not be a romantic, my friend. What a flood of emotion: everything I have ever loved about this beautiful game. Thank you Japan 🇯🇵for your talent, teamwork, selfless play, pure class, and for your legendary hero Shohei Ohtani. Truly deserving. Thank you to 🇺🇸🇲🇽🇨🇺🇵🇷🇻🇪and all the others. Long live this incredible sport and much love to everyone across the globe who got to enjoy a spectacular moment. 🥇⚾️❤️

First of all, as a Japanese, I would like to thank Mike Trout. I heard he called on his MLB stars to join him in the WBC. That made this tournament even better. He's the leader in all of baseball. It's not easy for a champion to stay champion, but USA continues to prove it can be done. Enjoy this dreamy time a little more, and tomorrow we'll be back to reality... And I am convinced that the MVP of this tournament is Google's translation function.

As a person that never plays baseball this inspired me so much, it made me want to play. I could imagine how the young kids of the new generation dreamed of having the title of "World Champions".
  • @daikitks
In Japan, baseball is deeply rooted in the culture and played at every level, from elementary school to college. Even outside of formal teams, kids frequently play catch, and there are countless private clubs for both children and adults, as well as independent leagues. On Sunday mornings, you can see people playing in riverbed baseball grounds. This culture has matured over generations since baseball was imported to Japan about 150 years ago. They all knew the USA was the best baseball country, but dreamed of “someday…” This victory also belongs to those nameless people who have played and loved baseball. It was an absolutely great game made not only by these amazing players but also everyone who have loved this sport, most likely including you. Thank you, everyone.

Can’t ask for more in the finals: 1. defending champions vs. two-time champions 2. American sluggers vs. Japanese excellent pitchers 3. three-time American League MVP (hitting) vs. American League MVP & two-way player (pitching). Both of them happened to be the captains. Ultimate face-off in the ninth inning. 4. evenly-matched game 2:3 Definitely the supreme classic in WBC history!!

Congratulations to Japan for winning the championship. Baseball just got interesting again because of this game.
  • @SLPC_
Shohei Ohtani is really the michael jordan of our era. I know nothing about baseball and I tuned in to watch just because of him.
  • @JustRolly
