When I got across this it was a different world out there
Exploring and metal detecting the overgrown places of New England now covered in forest you can find all kinds of cool places. I followed a wagon trail cart path to a spot that looks like old improved land from centuries ago. There are rock walls out here so we know it was cleared and farmed at some point in history. It was looking over the edge of this hill that I spotted the dark spot in the landscape which when I climbed down there turned out to be this beautiful colonial stone bridge. Built with massive rocks so wagons could travel over it and of course raising the question ...where does it go. I explored the other side and found that it was a bit of a granite quarry with split rocks all over the places, People were harvesting granite from here for cellar holes, walls and other structures. Amazing to thing that this was a busy work area back in the 1700s and 1800s and now its just overgrown , deserted and had been abandoned long ago. Reading the landscape history is how you find these old places. I also spent some time metal detecting a little loggers landing and old foundation.

I just love the exploratory hikes and reading the land. The colonial bridge is just a wonder out in the middle of nowhere. Found a Mission Accomplished in the process. Love the video. Stay safe out there Charlie๐Ÿ˜Š

That button at the end looked old old. Thanks for sharing!!!
  • Thank you Charlie for the adventure and seeing some beautiful scenery !

I used to do a lot of this. So much fun. Out by yourself scouting the woods looking for new homesites. I've found many virgin sites and Civil War camps that have never had a detector swung over them before. Where I live near a large city however with crime so bad over the passed few years it has gotten too dangerous to do it anymore. ๐Ÿ˜ข

  • Another monolithic, style stone bridge, that is so old, that the destination & pathway is unknown. Bolderfield work here is unquestionably the longest & and greatest amount of pieced together rock Structures, that are unrivaled, (Worldwide)!
  • You have Proof Charlie that New Hampshire was the First State to have "a Bridge to Nowhere".
