This is like watching a wedding video after you have just divorced

Only after the end of part 2 do you realize how much has been invested in this trailer. How much does this describe Ellie's state of mind throughout the game. It's amazing. This story does not let go. I don't know about the others, but I empathized with Ellie from beginning to end. She is a hostage to this emotional devastation caused by the loss of Joel.

he Last of Us is probably the most emotionally scarring video game series ever made. Every time I hear this song, I almost cry because it just brings back all the emotions I felt for these characters. It's so beautiful and sad and depressing all at the same time. Just like the game.

"Once we get outta this mess, I'm gonna teach you how to play the guitar. I reckon you'd really like that."
  • Am I the only one freaking out about the fact that Joel taught Ellie how to play the guitar like he said he would.
  • Still get chills watching this remembering how exited everyone was despite the controversy of the game it will forever hold a special place in my heart

Man this trailer is heartbreaking after finishing the game. When Joel says “what are you doing kiddo” it kinda sounded like to me “don’t go through with what you’re about to do”. Joel lost everything because of revenge and he’s about to watch Ellie go through the same thing because of what he did. Man I still love the first game more but this story was just a work of art. I understand if it wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but you got to take risks sometimes with your characters to get a story like this. I respect everyone’s opinion though.

Joel: "What are you doing, Kiddo? You really gonna go through with this?" Ellie: "It's NOT just a phase, Dad! I'm gonna be a country music sensation!"

i swear when he said “what are you doing kiddo?” my heart like shattered. that really was her father figure and he lead her in all the right directions in her teen years. i truly believed he shaped her into who she became. it’s almost like she lost her better half
  • I think the saddest thing about this game is how realistic it is. If humanity was plunged into chaos like the way this story happened, people would eventually fight and kill each other for resources and survival. And these tragic cycles of vengeance would start-not because people wanted them to happen, but because they "did what they had to" to survive.

When this trailer dropped for me, it was 100% clear that Joel here is dead and she was talking about hunting down his killers, how this wasn't picked up by other people I will never know. The imagery of Joel appearing out of white light, the lyrics alluding to a lone gunman wandering the land hoping for mercy for their actions, Ellie's direct words, those words and the hateful, sad tone could only be used for one person, and the last identifier that Joel is dead, we don't see his face, nor do we see him properly at all, we see faint glimpses of him, like he's a ghost.

"But I can't walk on the path of the right because i'm wrong" That lines hits so hard now

4 years later, I now realize that she is alone in this trailer. It hits me differently and I'm still pained after TLOU2.

Ellie is such an exceptional character. She is kind, generous, lovely and yet at the same time brave, dedicated and vengeful. I never loved any character in a game this much.

  • The first time i watch the trailer, i said, "Well she is on a rampage about someone else, maybe the death of Riley or a close one, family" but after the game came out and Joel died, i finally understand that the trailer was the mind of Ellie, and that Joel is only "like" a ghost or a flashback, you see him totally clean and calm (dead already) asking to Ellie if she is really going through all that killing spree, following the path of vengeance for his death. So the trailer really told you that Joel was already dead without playing the game at least for 5 minutes. Just amazing!

She better know how to swim, all those times I spent hours trying to find that crate thing
