The overall theme for buying logs comes down to how much you value your time. Most people don't realize that 'free' wood comes at the expense of time and effort. Especially if you are going to get wood. The In The Woodyard Firewood Business School has shown that one can make more money per hour when buying loads of logs for firewood.
  • Once you get that load done, we can adjust where the logs go and hopefully not have you jammed up. Learn as we go brother
  • “Can’t buy cool stuff if you don’t work” 😂😂😂 Those are words to live by!! Enjoyed the video Jack, great info!! 👊🏻👊🏻
  • Whatever works! Not a bad Idea if you can get for less than 80.00 or so per cord.

Buying logs is definitely worth it, another thing to think about is is Brad strategically places them for you, you kind of eliminate the need for an additional piece of equipment such as a loader. Good work jack👍
  • I buy logs too, mostly from Mike but they’re already pre-cut 16”, I guess it’s technically rounds. 💯 agree what you said about the tree service logs. The only thing that I would’ve had Brad do different is lay them out all on the ground parallel with each other 2’-3’ apart, I don’t like cutting logs piled on top of each other pain in the butt and the danger of kickback from hitting another log. Taryn please buy Jack a bigger woodyard.
  • Lots of benefits from buying logs, but it depends on where you are and how much can can get for your wood. This year has been a struggle for us. Log truck price went up an extra $441 per truck. Making it $2205 for "12 cords" of logs. Problem is that when we split and stack it, we went up with about 10.5 cords (cookies, rot, small cuts etc... we don't sell). That means we pay $210 per cord in log form. Last year we did good I sales at selling at $280/cord. This year the cost forced us to charge $330 and we for were struggling to sell and hope it picks up in the fall like it usually does. Even at $330, it's not a lot of money for us. My brother and I are 50/50 partners so when we sell a cord, $210 is put away to pay for another truck. We put $40 in the company account for expenses like gas/fuel/maintenance/taxes and we pocket $40 each. Were a registered business so we pay taxes. Only way we stay afloat is because we pepper in logs we harvest from a few different properties.

I only buy tri-axle loads. You’re right, time is money. It’s not worth me fetching all my wood, actually costs me more than the truck load does. Off subject qqq. What cameras are you using and microphones 🎤?
  • @fricknjeep
hi good looking load of wood best to all john
  • @oldguyfirewood
Everything you pointed out was spot on Jack. I’m lucky to have my tree service bring only the “good stuff”. Lengths are still an issue, but overall it works ok.
  • I bought a lot of wood when I started out, mostly because the wood was clean, nice size and straight. You can get a lot accomplished when you have decent wood to start with
  • You are definitely on the right track buying wood. Cutting off the land is brutal and time-consuming. It takes us 4 hours to get a cord of wood out. If we were to sell it, we would just break even. The beard is coming in nice.
  • Hey Jack time is money brother. When you’re super busy with work that means your free time is very limited. Having a load of logs in your yard means you can peck away at it when it’s convenient for you. I think we all need to work smarter, not harder. The only downside is that now you have a mess at home to clean up but also the concern of being a good neighbor and being considerate of the noise you make. Cheers Woody from Niagara!!!
  • Good morning Mr. Jack. Great video. You’re going to love the axis for your bundles. After a load or 2 of logs you’ll figure out how to stage the logs to your advantage. Tell Brad any good log operator would separate the logs by species for a great friend. You know he’d do that for you. Be gentle on him. Later my friend.
  • Great video..I agree buying logs make more sense, hustling wood out in the forest is much work!
  • Good video and all good reasons for buying loads of logs 👍 Great seeing the Axis running 😊
  • @mikesherman2612
Good deal brother. And I like having a log pile at the house too. But for now we are just grabbing what’s available. Once all these little jobs get cut and split I’m going to need a log load dropped. Awesome video bro, take care !!!
  • @kenskuts
Great video Jack! Brad and Chas certainly did you a solid…! Nice AXIS work too…! We all learn as we go…!!
