I think Legends Arceus was the game Gamfreak actually wanted to make, while BDSP was the side project they pawned off to a third party studio.

To add insult to injury, these games aren't even remakes, they're remasters. They ported the source code to Unity, gave it new graphics and music, and called it a day. It still checks for GBA games in the bottom slot whenever you go to Ramanas Park, and people have found new glitches in the original games from examining this game's code.

4 words. Blame The Pokemon Company. They were responsible for the game being rushed. Originally ILCA wanted to have an open worldish overworld among other stuff according to their proof of concept of the games, but despite not working on them directly, Masuda had to tell the devs to rush it. The proof of ILCA is not being as incompetent as people think is them working on games like Ace Combat 7, Neir Automata, and One Piece Odyssey Adventure. They have a pretty solid repertoire of games so even if they only supposedly contributed to a small part of those games I stated above, they weren't just some new or small dev who got handed it just to get it over with

I haven't played the game but just by looking at it alone it REALLY comes across as a game that said "Shut up about sinnoh remakes" and nothing more.

The controversy is essentially that they just remastered Diamond and Pearl, basically the same game with minimal changes and new assets. Rather than the more thorough remakes the previous games had, where there were a lot more substantial changes from the original games.

the Platinum outfit is the most insult thing a constant reminder of failure and we most likely wont get a pokemon platinum remake

Im kinda scared for black and white remakes because they might bdsp it and i really want thwm to take the legends route
  • @luigiRobs14
The worst part is ILCA wanted to make it a good remake but Masuda and GF stopped them

It’s sad because there was so much hype for gen 4 remakes. Gen 4 games were my personal favourites so I was super excited for the remakes but man, bdsp was a huge disappointment for me and to this day I’m still sad about it :(
  • Friendly reminder a significant portion of BDSP’s backend data was copied and pasted from Diamond and Pearl, hence the same glitches being present.

Luminescent Platinum, the rom hack you mentioned, is the saving grace of these games. I’m in the project’s discord server and they’ve seriously gone and taken these lackluster cashgrabs of games and turned them into genuine labors of love.

One of the most scummiest things bdsp did was releasing the physical versions on cheaper cartridges, and forcing the players to download the rest of the game in a "day one patch", this day one patch is required for the entire post game to become available as well as the official music and not placeholder music. so whenever the switch's online connectivity dies it will literally be impossible to experience 50% of the game's total file size if not downloaded prior

I really wish Bdsp was in the style of Oras. By that I mean, take the gimmick of the generation, and integrate it into the story of the remake. I know swsh says dynamax only occurs in Galar, but in reality dynamax is just Eternatus’ power. They could’ve made something up like after the Eternamax incident, Eternatus’ energy spread all over the world, and that’s why there’s Dynamax in Sinnoh. They could’ve even put the raid dens in the underground instead of cramming them into existing routes. As well as actually being in the same style as Swsh too with full character models and all that

BDSP was game freak's way of telling us to never ask them for anything ever again.
  • @VoidedTree
“The next remakes will be black and white” Legends Z: “Allow me to introduce myself”
  • @insaneadem5014
After Oras I was hoping that every remake would take place in the mega evolution timeline. That way they could make the new pokemon in the classic style and let them have the spotlite, while slowly introducing new mega evolutions.

Great video! I think if BDSP had a few more months in development and added new content it would be have been much more well received. There should have been way more Hisui connections in BDSP and if you had save data for Legends Arceus the Hisuian Pokémon should have been catchable somewhere in BDSP. Or at least allowed them to be transferable. Not having the Hisui Pokemon in BDSP cause the fan base to get confused and think these Pokemon went extinct when it was confirmed they are not. The chibi art style wasn’t too bad, but the issue was that many fans were expecting something more like ORAS did so fans were ready to experience Sinnoh in the engine of SwSh. BDSP with more Pokemon and more content would have made the game so many times better.
  • The problem was that some fans didn't really like Diamond and Pearl to begin with due to its story and other things. Platinum improved and fixed some things and that's why people always praise it.

Its hated because they just grabbed the original Gen 4 games, put a new coat of paint on them, then resold it at $60 for a game that we already had and added nothing different. When frlg, hgss, and oras expanded the gen by adding new content new form or much needed added lure that helped make certain characters more fleshed out
