Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg apologized to the families of children who suffered abuse on social media platforms during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday.

“I’m sorry for everything you’ve all gone through,” Mr Zuckerberg said, turning to audience members holding up pictures of their loved ones. “Nobody should have to go through what your families have suffered. This is why we have invested so much and are going to continue industry-leading efforts to make sure that no one has to go through the types of things your families have suffered.”

Why can't we grill politicians just like Mark was grilled?!
  • @komodo6693

Actually it's not a Mark problem, it's problem parents and GOVERMENT. Mark give freedom to call, message and conversation but how it use it deponds on people.

Thank you, Senator Hawley, for tackling so very essential issues. ❤
  • you know when you buy cigarettes in singapore, they show you the disgusting health effects? Social media should have that imagery, every time you post something and every time you browse the app for 30 minutes. A mental health warning appears.

Don't blame the parents! There is social pressure on children to be in social media. Providers should be supervised closely!

This is an area where the governments around the world should 100% step in and create safety measures for vulnerable groups, these company’s clearly are not going to do it, the governments around the world are late to be implementing these measures. Parents also hold a responsibility to their children to help them navigate through these horrible social media sites, imagine a stranger walked up to your child and told them think x y and z would you tolerate it? I think not, so why let a stranger online do the same?
  • This is crazy. He has to take sole responsibility for what people are choosing to post and what parents allow their kids to use? And on top of that not letting him defend himself whatsoever. Looks all for show just like the rest of the government nowadays.

It is easy to win a discussion when this senator gets the majority of speech time and every time his opponent tries to answer the senator raises his voice and tries to have power in terms of the direction of this conversation. It should not work that way in a public hearing. It is a classic example of a complete one-sided communication.
  • Loved how Mark reached out to help his neighbours on Maui when a whole town was burnt to the ground.. 🤝 oh wait...

Why isn’t this person being prosecuted now? WHY? I want to know, Why?
  • Nobody has been forced to use such internet platforms. And this hearing sounds to me like a witch-hunt. By the way, the senator should let him speak and shouldn’t interrupt him all the way.
