There are days I can only go from bed to couch, thank you for making one guy on earth not feel so lonely. 💯
  • @SteffanieOfOz
I love the way Occy sits on the patio and watches you lifting the sleepers with the "that's my dad!" Happy Birthday Occy! He is now officially a teenager! Woo-Hoo!
  • This is not giving up. This is making a well considered decision. It shows flexibility and adaptability. So good on you Max.
  • @TaTaPare
You’re not giving up. You’re reprioritizing due to weather. Projects are plenty. It’s working smarter not harder. When we know how to pivot we are still productive. That garden is not going anywhere. Congratulations on all that you do! HAPPY BIRTHDAY OCCY!

I think a nice birthday present for Occy would be a puppy. Someone he can share time with, someone to teach, and someone to keep him moving...seniors need that. Occy would be a great role model.

Happy Birthday, Occy! And, Max, stopping work on the garden was not a fail - it was a nod to the fact that Mother Nature will always win and that your life on the land is directly connected to her whims.

Hey there. If it helps, I have some advice about storage space. I've remodeled half a dozen homes over 20+ years and in that time, I've learned a few things about how to use space. The first thing I would say is if you have the luxury or storing things in a location other than your living space, TAKE IT. If you can build a shed, build it and store things there. in a perfect world, your living space should contain only the things you live with and the things you need to live. Anything else that you don't need on a daily or weekly or monthly basis, get it out if you can. It simplifies things so much and it allows you to experience your living space as a home (not a storage shed). It frees you up both literally and figuratively to inhabit your space in a way that supports how you want to live, not how you need to live. You'll see bathrooms and reading nooks and meditation spaces where you would otherwise see tool and paint storage. It's just a huge game-changer. It took me a loooooong time to learn my most recent house and I'm so glad I took that time. I only had to build once and I was able to take advantage of all of the views and feelings of the space and where the light falls at different times of the day. And I took everything I could take out, out. I was only able to envision all that I did because I wasn't encumbered by stuff and things tucked everywhere. Feel free to ignore, but I hope it helps. I've learned so much and made so many mistakes, I feel obligated to share! Bisou bisou!
  • Occy is so adorable, and so chill!! He's like "Dad!! It's a vacuum, it's not alive, why would I be bothered with it? I've got a nap I need to get busy with!". Happy Birthday Occy!!
  • @CharmCharlie
Happy Birthday ol' fella!! 13 means that you can ask for a later bed time, go to higher rated films and can be all moody.....but I feel, as a dog, you want more sleep, cannot keep awake during films and there is no way that you could ever be moody!! We all love you so much Occy and hope your birthday is a blast.....with loads of treats!! <3<3<3

    "Happy Birthday Occy!!!"🎂🦴❤
  • @Kitkatrey
OMG! ‘Brilliant’ vid! (see what I did there?!) A very Happy birthday to Occy, still a beautiful legend. And great work by Kev! It is good to see a great group of friends you are amassing.

You're not giving up! You're just going with the flow! That's being in sync with nature.

In Permaculture terms, your kitchen garden should be close enough to your kitchen door that if you go out to it in your fuzzy slippers, they won't get wet from dew. Bill Mollison - co-originator of Permaculture. Build your systems where you need them. The compost system - next to your garden so you don't have to carry garden waste to a compost bin area and then compost back to your garden. Have them right next to each other. The chicken/animal system - next to your garden so you grow feed for your animals - and in the case of chickens, you can pen off a section of the garden you've harvested from where they can dig up what's been left behind, forage for bugs, fertilize the garden, and till your soil, preparing it for succession planting. Collect water from the roof of their pen for them and/or the garden. Look into chicken tractors or rotational grazing (usually meant for cattle and other grazers but can be modified for smaller animals). The shelter system - next to your garden. For tools or animals. You want your tools left where you use them so you're not carrying back and forth. The roof is another water source. The water system - collect water wherever and however you can, where you need it so you're not running pipes and hoses everywhere. Use gravity. Dig ditches and swales to collect and/or divert water. Slow it, spread it, sink it, store it. Every drop of water should stay on your property but have a non-destructive way to move off of the property if you have a severe weather event. Plan for flood and for drought. The power system - all roofs can house a solar panel even if it's just for a nightlight. Happy Birthday old man!

Excellent decision on postponing the garden for better weather. That shows intelligence not failure buddy! Happy Birthday, Occy!!!
