  • I love how the wikipedia page describes the idea behind this song: "The long, meandering story was not expected to be popular and instead Yankovic wanted to compose a song "that's just going to annoy people for 12 minutes","
  • Growing up in Albuquerque, I can confirm that schools are legally required to play this every morning after the pledge

"That snorkel's been just like a snorkel to me" is possibly the most underrated line in any song ever composed
  • @dafuq3959
Funny thing is, Al’s life immediately started improving after his lucky snorkel got stolen.

He did this at the Brown County Music Center in Nashville, Indiana Friday night (2/3/2023). It was epic. The donut section was about 3 minutes long. Went through a bunch of different kind of berry donuts. Then before the last verse he pretended to forget the lyrics and stated the whole thing over. Then did the first two verses again, long enough to make you wonder if he was REALLY going to do the whole thing over. Then jumped to the last verse. It was a great show!
  • This song really is a masterpiece. Fun fact: Karaoke DJ's hate this song.

"In that case.. what do you have?" "All I got right now is a box of one dozen starving crazed weasles" "Ok I'll take that"

"But grandpa, I just asked for a bedtime story"

'And three of the airplane engines burned out and we went into a tailspin and crashed into a hillside and the plane exploded into a giant fireball and EVERYBODY DIED... except for me.' After all these years, still one of my favorite lines

Al's magnum opus, for sure. If anyone dismisses him as a parody novelty and therefore denies his genius, PLAY THEM THIS IMMEDIATELY.

Whenever I have to wait 10 or 11 minutes I just sing this whole song to myself. Helps pass the time.

Whenever I'm allowed to pick music for an event or for a conference call for work or something, I pick Albuquerque. I'm allowed to pick the song for events less and less frequently, but I will always pick Albuquerque.

@4:40 "Well, to cut a long story short." Story continues for another six minutes.

“My dear sweet mother looked at me like a cow looks at an oncoming train” is such a funny line

This song was so epic when I got to see him play it live in Albuquerque.

My Senior year, we were asked to pick a song that has a deep meaning, like Hotel California (Albuquerque was my song), and type the message next to each lyric... This took quite some time.... Now only the top two in the whole class was to be picked. When asked if I was going to be one of those, the immediate answer was... no...

I haven't listened to this in years and I can still sing along nearly flawlessly
