Catan - How To Play

I can’t believe I just watched 23 minutes of a tutorial on how to play a game I do not have and have no intention of buying. That’s just how frickin’ good your videos are! Well-produced, well-spoken, edited well, and with easy-to-understand segments throughout. I love this channel!

I love it when Rodney does videos for obscure games from small publishers like this.

I just watched an entire video teaching me how to play a game that I've played dozens of times and could easily explain without referencing the rulebook at all. That's how awesome Rodney is 😂

I've known how to play Catan since the late 1990's and yet I still watched this whole video anyway (and learned a couple of things I was doing slightly wrong). It's a testament to how good this channel is and how good Rodney is at teaching games.

It got me into hobby board gaming and after all these years I still dearly love Catan.

Already played many dozens of times, including most expansions, but watching anyway lol. Love your explanations.

We got Catan for our oldest son for Christmas and Catan Jr. for our youngest. It wasn’t long before the entire family, even our six year old, was hooked on Catan. I’m glad I discovered your channel. Now that we know our family loves board games, we’re actively seeking new ones to play. It’s such a great way to spend time as a family!

I have Catan Junior about pirates and building castles and ships, and it's amazing how well they boiled the rules of this game down into that to make it simple for kids to learn!

My story. I am an avid magic the gathering player. One day in 2009 I was looking for something mtg related and came across bgg. That lead me to settlers of Catan. It is the first “designer” board game I bought. I now own over 100 board games. Most expensive google search ever. I introduced my brothers one friend to settlers and it blew his mind so much that he now has over 600 games. Crazy times.

The most fun I have with this game is how everyone calls the resources different names

I like how they marked the STARting cities with a STAR, definitely a nice touch :)

I don't care what the tabletop snobs say. Catan is a great game and is what brought my family and me into board gaming. Of course there are better games out there, but there is a reason why Catan has held its position as a modern classic for long. As a newcomer into the tabletop world, I found a lot of gatekeeping and elitism in the board game community at first, especially when I told people I liked Catan. It was really annoying. We need more people playing board games, and if Catan has been a gateway into the hobby for many former casuals like myself, there is no reason to chastise anybody for playing and liking this game. Play and like whatever you want. Board games are to be shared with literally everyone.

I have played this so many times with some friends and they taught me the rules. I never bothered to read the rule book for myself, but we have been doing some things wrong. Sure glad you made this.
