Using a Cat D7 bulldozer to move a rock and drag a tree

Right out of high school I worked on interstate 81 trough southwest Virginia back in 1962. At that time hydraulics were just starting to show up on heavy equipment. Most of our scrapers and dozers were cable controlled. Hydraulic seal deveopment was catching up but there were a lot of leaking cylinders. Your old D7 was probably a logger with the winch option. The standard for road work was D8's and D9's. D8's for general dirt moving, slope work, ditches, etc. D9's were pushers. They would push the scrapers (the old boys called them "pans") and help fill them with dirt. After that, I attended college, got a mechanical engineering degree and went to work for Caterpillar in Illinois designing systems on Cat equipment, mostly 200 series excavators which were introduced in the early 70's. Anyway, I enjoy seeing the old Cat stuff still doing their thing. Keep up the great work Andrew. I love your content.

I actually like that almost all of your equipment doesn't have back up beepers.

It's mesmerizing to watch a powerful machine and a skillful operator working together! Also, It's cool to see that he has his ear protection on! Good job!

More, more, more! Yes, like 1.3 million others, I am a huge addicted fan. That scenery alone is gorgeous. It reminds me of a farm we had in Somerset, Ohio when I was a kid. All those tree's, fallen leaves everywhere in fall and more importantly a huge raveen where the tree's were so thick you couldn't even see the sky. We had a old vine we swung on from one side of the bank to the other. The way this was shot makes you feel like you are standing back and watching this live. I've never driven any kind of bulldozer, excavator or skid steer but I'd love to try before I leave this world. I'd love about 100 acres like Andrew has so I could build a house in the middle and have free firewood the rest of my life. Just for electric alone, my bill rose to $466 for September. That's almost double what I was paying so I switched the generator for electric to another company and my bill dropped $203 for October billing cycle. This is why I want to move into the country like Andrew lives. Although my shipping castle would be two 20 foot containers, haha. Thanks for the video, it was fun.

Andrew, the only thing i hate about your videos is that they END!!! Love your stuff, keep it up!
  • I’ve watched everything Andrew has made. I love the constant terrain challenges, the homesteading he’s doing, and all the big projects. Who do y’all recommend I try next? A bonus if it isn’t just cab views. I like the bystander perspective more than first person

I drove a dozer for the first time yesterday. H Equipment school finally offered at my local community college, plus im doing welding class at night. Free courses. Also yesterday I ran an excavator, tractor, and skid steer all for the first time. The dozer is the most difficult in terms of trying to level the ground to a grade. Our proficiency test for dozer will be leveling a pad for a house. For the excavator we'll have to dig a 4x4x4 ft hole. Fun, but certainly no walk in the park, and the school work and tests are a pita. Thanks AC for getting me interested and inspiring me to try equipment operating and welding for my next career.

You’re a brave man handling that winch cable without gloves lol That D7 looks like C&C’s “BEFORE” thumbnail of LD 18’s newest dozer 🤣🤣🤣

The old Cat is Ideal for mucking around in the soft soil, In Vietnam we had dozens of those D7-E's in the bush, Turned out they could take a land mine pretty well, or in other words, It provided a lot of under protection with that rang transmission under your backside. Saved me a number of times. good job boss.
  • @RipVW68
That D7 is an absolute beast. The idle sounds so low but it's got guts. Appreciated!
  • @DaleDirt
If you notice , Andrew buys mostly older stuff and keeps them running , point being made is , the old stuff runs . Andrews the best . And I am also a fan of the serenity of powerful diesel engines and equipment without those loud obnoxious back up beepers . Thanks again Andrew .

I just love the way you can pick up an oldie and fix it up, then put it back into work, as they should. Andrew you remind me of my son. I lost track of you years ago because I didn't follow, not now. Thank You.
  • @TheKajunkat
My dad had a D6D while I was growing up. I used to think that thing was massive until I got around D7's. Then I saw some D8's and they were like giants. I couldn't even figure how something that big could even move. It seemed like a locomotive on tracks. Ah the wonder years, haha.
  • Love how you manage trees. Watched you pull this one out against two standing trees and somehow thought they won’t fall. And they didn’t. Way back in Australia they would wholesale clear totally with 2 Cats driving in parallel pulling each end of the one very heavy chain.....everything went down. Gov eventually put a stop to it. I have quarter acre back of my house with beautiful trees but originally it was rubbish trees with vines, ticks, snakes I had youth but little money. After good rain ground really wet using block n tackle pulled first one down falling against base of another. Pulled that second one over the first which lifted its root system clear out of the soil. Each one thereafter again pulled over last one and popped root base right out. Took few months but got them all. Then got a chain saw. Now it’s paradise. Different trees, no ticks, no snakes, no more kids to the hospital. Kids all grown n gone....my late wife’s garden now for me to walk through with fond memories.

every time i see old stuff running i think of levi watching from the side and inspecting the work. ♥
  • @SouthOfGate
Wow your skills to bring us right along side of the dozer without even touching the tripod! awesome.
  • @j81851
Nice to see you so soon please visit more often. We love you and your content down here in Mobile, Al on the beautiful Gulf Coast
  • @guyman2134
I never had an opportunity to play with these cool toys you have. Believe me, if I coulda, I woulda...lol! I'm going to have to settle on living it through your videos! 😊
  • It's amazing how someone can get so proficient running all of the different heavy equipment that Andrew owns, but I guess he has to be when he's building his own one lane highway system all over his mountain top. Always great videos. Can't wait for the next one.

It looks like you could use a new set of tracks. The grousers are getting pretty thin. Thanks Andrew, for the great content.
