Lyrics:
When I lay this burden down
Who's gonna take it up for me?
When you run me in the ground
That's the day you're gonna see
For all I've done, I'm alone
Just for a moment can I not be strong?
So how 'bout now, oh can I lay
This burden down?

Still don’t understand how a beautiful song sung by an emotional, exceptional voice like this doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Maybe it was born in the wrong decade.
-
This woman could sing to a tree and it would move. She gives her all in whatever song she sings. Such a wide range,
shes' amazing. -
She is so underrrated only because she's not so commercial. She deserves better, she is extremely talented.
-
She is so underrated, but everybody agrees that she’s one of the best soulful musicians .
-
Jennifer Hudson have the most powerful voice in the game. She should be more famous then what she is now..🔥🔥🔥
-
Wow “for a moment please could I not be strong” what a powerful line. 👏🏾
-
Not able to comprehend why this isn’t up there in the stratosphere of Whitney, Celine, Mariah, Adele and Barbra-I mean this is elegant beauty at its mist significant best!!!
-
When you watch station 19 and knows Jennifer Hudson voice anywhere I knew that was you ❤️
-
Damn! Those vocals are out of this world! For the kids on here, this is what you call: sanging!!!
-
This is not the candy pop songs that we're used to hearing. This is a grown ass woman's song, talking about real pain, disappointment and frustration and it comes through in her delivery. Wow, I felt that!
-
This song is so underrated. One of her best.
-
The fact I heard this song first on Station 19 is saddening. This song is years old. Jennifer Hudson is so underrated!
-
With the first notes she sang, immediately loved the song
-
I’m so disappointed that America has basically given up on this extraordinary woman. But kudos to The Voice UK for giving her a chance to continue advancing her career.
-
She makes ART without a CANVAS. The instruments she uses are her greatest gifts and she transforms them.
-
Station 19 brought me here and the fact that I have to say that is wrong. JHud is so slept on, we gotta wake up, people!!
-
This woman has been through SO MUCH and you can feel every ounce of pain in this song. the acapella moment really made this song. incredible!

I'm a river, I keep running on
I'm a pillar you got used to leaning on
Underneath it, there's a person
I'm a woman and I'm hurting
Cause I feel like I'm holding up the world
When I lay this burden down
Who's gonna take it up for me
When you run me in the ground
That's the day you're gonna see
For all I've done I'm alone
Just for a moment can I not be strong
So how 'bout now oh can I lay
This burden down
I deliver each and every time
I'm a giver, I don't think about what's mine
You keep me asking, you keep taking
And that's no reciprocation
I shouldn't have to do this by myself
I'm a river, I keep running on
I'm a pillar, you're used to leaning on
Just this once, oh just this once -
This song spoke volumes in Station 19's most powerful episode. Those in my community understand this all too well.... :-(

Who else is closing their eyes and lipsynching to this pretending to have JHudd's voice? I can't be the only one!
This is a powerful song with a soulful expression of what many people feel at a visceral level, but are unable to articulate. Can't tell you how often I feel this way. "Being strong" has become so much a part of our identities ...but wouldn't it be great to lay the burden down. Whew!
