Gloves definitely a must have. Weil's disease a bacterial infection from water contaminated with rat or cattle pee can easily be picked up as many fishermen know, especially if you have small cuts to your hands. Not a pleasant illness at all as my son found after helping to clear fishing water of rubbish one time. He recognised the symptons and saw the Doc straight away but was still really ill for a fortnight.

To me a 200 lb 1.75 inch magnet worked for me, I even had only 25 feet of cord too, it was kinda macgyvered together but ended up pulling up a kids tricycle out of this large pond, I left it there so the kid can be excited about his old bike and found large fishing hooks, a small boat motor, and metal bars for construction, also found a few magnetic rocks I’ll have to classify and examine, but to me, the absolute minimum for magnet fishing is at least get a 200lb magnet. It was only 10$ and I already made my money back in scrap metal alone. It’s one of my essential tools now for mining and prospecting for things.
  • Just tore apart a speaker, and used rope on the magnet. Thank you for this.

Hey man I wanted to tell you something pretty important about magnet Fishing and valuable metals. Meteorite is VERY lucrative if you can find it and is highly magnetic.
  • I'm such a newbie I haven't even got a magnet yet, lol! I am more interested and curious about what all is magnetic and can be pulled out of water? Now we know that Silver & Gold is out, but is that only the purest precious metals? How about pocket change? Guns/firearms? Ammo...brass? Aluminum cans? I'm a disabled USMC Veteran and I am planning on trying out, thanks for sharing 👍

How do you store and transport these magnets? I can see if being a real pain sticking to everything in the garage or trunk of your car.

There's one method of finding gold with a neodymium magnet. Black sand is magnetic and gold can be found within black sand. It's possible to attract black sand with your magnet and pull up some specks of gold along with it. There are a few videos on YouTube of gold being found this way.

Great Video but a quick question. This may be a stupid question, but if a magnet has 500lbs of pull how do you remove the items from the magnets if the pull/hold is so strong?
