Sadly, this expansion has been a huge letdown for our group. We've waited for it for over a year only to get a small "Prelude"-style expansion. New factions are at least interesting and fresh, leaders are just ok but not great (they are pretty situational and are simply small bonuses, not game-changing additions), but everything else was very lackluster: too few new techs, and those that were added, don't really feel any different at all, just a little variation on the techs we already had, almost no new rules or game systems (apart from Leaders), almost no new events, no variable tree paths... nothing. I mean, there are under 20 cards to add to the base game, apart from leaders, and most of them won't even be seen in a game. And the solo mode was just a slap in the face with "Oh you got all these new factions and leaders in this box? Nope, can't use them with this all-new solo mode, just your basic stuff, or it breaks!" - and the publisher was even lazy enough to not add solo-only techs as replacement, or at least a card with tech change reminder. After a stellar appearance of the base game, the expansion really felt like a cash grab, especially as its price is almost 50% of the base game ($40 RRC vs $85 RRC for the base). It felt like a couple of separate mini-expansions in the box, and shouldn't have been priced at over $20-25, there is just no content inside to warrant the price tag.
