She was ONLY 13 when she recorded this song!

Rimes was "discovered" by late night radio talker Bill Mack who did a daily midnight to 6 am radio show. Mack was known as the Trucker Cowboy and had a national audience with the cross country trucker community. According to the NY Times, Mack wrote "Blue" for Patsy Cline in 1963 but she never recorded it. He offered "Blue" to Ms. Lee Ann, which won her a Grammy. She first sang the song when she was 11 years old !!! With a national audience, Mack propelled LAR into stardom overnight. Truckers could drive cross country for six hours from state to state and never have to change radio stations. Bill Mack was friends with Elvis, Waylon and Willie. He died of COVID in 2020. Listening to him on the late night radio was a treat. Broadcasting out of Fort Worth, Texas, his radio signal stretched from coast to coast and from Mexico to Canada.

I went and saw her back in 2010 and when she did Blue for her encore it sent shivers down my spine. Her voice is still as majestic as it was when she originally recorded it.

She's the perfect person for this song. She absolutely killed it.

When I got out of the marines in '94 I went to Florida for awhile. I walked into the bar I would go to at times...I walked in and some people said hey Dutch how you doing, first thing out my mouth was..who is singing this song cuz she sounded like Patsy....blew my mind

Leann Rimes was only 10 years old when she sang "The Star Spangeld Banner" that he heard , and he sent her his song " BLUE" for her to consider recording . So she agreed and that was how she agreed to record her song "BLUE"!!!!!!
