PM is key for the longevity of those Generac’s…..Nice work as always, Mikey👍
  • @nspro931
Valve clearance is the most important step, not to be skipped.

I took the class on these 12 years ago. Certified to do their warranty work. Got the company I work for to start doing generators. Owner thanks me all the time. Good money and work for the slow season. Easy to do.

There are many delicate processes going on in that engine (combustion, pressure, retention of fluids, expelling gas, breathing air, lubrication which may or may not include a pump, gaskets, etc). Just like inside a unit. (he said unit). You have to keep it running at optimal performance. Introducing a substance thats not in the engine into an engine is usually a toss up. Im glad it worked for you.
  • I've always wondered what a service on one of these things entailed. Thanks for the video.
  • @harbbains5718
Wow Mikey didn’t know you do that too. Very good servicing job on that machine👍

Great information. Thanks for the posting and the effort.
  • After the recommended run-time hours, the valve clearances need to be checked to see if they are within tolerance (0.002-0.004 inches). Not hard to do but valve covers need to be removed to access the rocker arms and piston rotated to Top Dead Center. There will not be any lights or screen notifications to do this like the oil and filter change notifications.

I have the new model 22KW. You can't access the battery easy like this style. Now you have to remove the side panel. Great machines.
  • I love the channel but some important steps got skipped. Just a few things to always check before starting the unit; disable the charging circuit as this unit should have a T1 fuse and double check battery fluid level as i have seen these explode if the battery is dry enable the charging circuit once completed, check if this unit has a plenum as they do rust and can leak causing a "thermal event" on startup, while down there check for 3.5-7"wc for NG or 10-12"wc for LP, always check output voltage with a no load test as i have seen a bad AVR blow electronics in the property. Anyway love the work fellas.

I can't believe I pay $500 every year for this. Not anymore! Thanks guys, great vid.
  • I get asked all the time if I service generators. Didn't know it was that easy. Might look into taking the class and adding another feather in my cap.

HVAC Contractor that Installed my Carrier (Generac) 15KW Generator back in 2013 NO longer wanted to Perform Mtce. on it. Others wanted Too Much. I do Mtce. 👍
  • @ronaldhooutube
I’d like that trick with the oil drain cap and the drainkat. I typically just let it drain as a change and gap the plugs.
  • @JohnR9965
Mike …I’m pretty sure you need 4 stroke 5W30 oil which contains zinc to handle the heat small engines produce. Mobil 1 is for automobiles which are cooler running. Thermal breakdown will happen quicker here. Just my thoughts.
  • @AD17709
Peters face when the generator first started 😂
