430 MEL Rebuild Part 1

Published 2024-05-18
We finally have the engine back and are ready to start putting it back together! In this video, we clean and derust more components, paint the block, and go over some measurements and specifications, including the camshaft and valvetrain. Plus, enjoy some really noteworthy vehicles in local junkyards.

If anyone wants good measurements of an early 1958 cam, I can remeasure properly and provide them, however, I suspect my original is significantly worn and may not give the best numbers.

Good video. I need to rebuild my 1968 462 MEL so I can get my Lincoln running better. It runs now but I know it needs rebuilding.

I rebuilt a 63 430 Lincoln engine ten years ago but just did rings and bearings. I currently have a 430 apart out of my 61 Lincoln and it only has 56k miles but sat in a humid environment without being started since 1977. At this point I plan on having the heads done and just do rings and bearings on the short block. It is the lesser horsepower with a 2 barrel. I did notice that parts seem much harder to find than they were a decade ago. BTW your paint job looks great on the engine. Any of the Lincoln suppliers will have used oil input tubes because they end up with so many engines. try Lincolnland if you want to get a different one.Good info on the camshafts. I knew that the 58s had incredible HP and torque ratings. What is the date code on your block and heads?

May I ask. Witch way does the distributor drive shaft go in? with the "clip" up towards the distributor or down towards the oil pump.
