A busy autumn week focused on food, heat and power - harvesting vegetables from the garden and storing them in the cold cellar, installing solar panels for electricity, moose hunting for meat, cutting firewood and shingling the firewood shed, traditional archery practice for deer season, cooking with cast iron on the wood stove and keeping my dog Cali the golden retriever entertained.

I cannot imagine for one minute what it must feel like to be living in a home that you built all by yourself. You are an amazing man.
  • That cabin is nothing short of incredible... so nice to see your hard work really coming together
  • @connieb3819
Your picture thumbnail looks like a page from a fairy book. Beautiful.
  • I love seeing all the vegetables. Years ago my husband and ai used to grow a huge garden to feed our nine kids and it was very productive. He has passed now and I am alone and I miss those days. It was like a piece of Heaven on Earth. We loved all the great foods and the nutrition they gave our family. Keep up the awesome work and good luck.

And when I look back to 2 years ago watching you struggle in the cold and snow/ice to get those log walls put up all by yourself with a winch---I think, now THIS is what makes all those snowy cold. work days so worth it. You deserve to really be proud and happy in that amazing home. Shawn. May the Lord give you many happy years there with those you love--and sons-in-laws and grandsons to live there/ or near there and care for you as you age.

Wow, you've come a long way Shawn, the cabin looks great. It's amazing to see this fully furnished and completed cabin when it was just a bunch of logs earlier in the year. I'm mystified how you're able to complete so much in such a short amount of time, simply amazing Shawn, it's just beautiful.

The house is off the grid but doesn't lack anything. Your garden is full of vegetables and fruits. I like the way you live and work, everything is so good

What a great episode. Nice to see you enjoying the cabin you worked so hard to build. Thanks for sharing.
  • @simonemoreno4324
I hope he makes a lot of precious memories in the cabin with his beautiful family

The inside of the cabin is so beautiful, warm, welcoming, cozy and very nicely decorated. Congrats and enjoy!

I don’t know how much you have earned as Utuber, but looking at your marvelous cabin with all your time, energies, brain and muscles .. you rightly deserve it! Say it with all of my admiration! 🤙♥️🙏

Shawn, there is no one more deserving of relaxing in their slippers & “cozy clothes” in front of a nice fire than you! You must occasionally pinch yourself to believe you’ve reached this point ...... the Self Reliance life is in full gale & more than well earned!!
  • @jonduthiel7399
Great to see you a little more in the Cabin . The bacon and eggs made my mouth water . Cabin looks so good . Hugs for Cali .❤️

Fascinating to witness all the planning that went into a root celler full of high quality food. I learned a lot, even though I have been a student of and root-cellaring since the day I stepped into my great aunt's on the Kansas prairie. It was an Aladdin's cave of colors and smells, in baskets, on shelves, in crocks, the long strings of onions and peppers. Of course she also grew her own lemons, the size of big oranges, in her own little greenhouse, this back in 1965! You are keeping a true art form alive, Mr. James. Aunt Lillian would have loved you.

We enjoy your channel immensely. We have a cottage constructed in the early 1900’s which was part of a resort at the time. Located in the Southern Adirondacks. We love your cooking segments but often ask “I wonder what meat he’s using?” We’re both approaching 70 years young and are thankful for your channel….
  • Shawn you blow me away. You created 2 cabins, gardens, fish, hunter, solarized your home. Shawn I have been watching you since the begin and you always surprise me, constantly working and you love all of it. I honor you Shawn. ❤️ Cindy 👋

PLEASE do a time-lapse of the entire build. You've done an amazing job.
  • Solitude: The state of being secluded or uninhibited. How wonderful Shawn & Cali 🙏🏻
