Do you feel like your bike isn't the right size for you? A bike fit might answer your problems! The way a bike fits you is often more important than the bike itself, some mountain bikers understand the importance of a bike fit and skeptics think it's just another marketing ploy by the bike industry. Rich Payne has been doing a lot of long-distance cross-country riding over the past few years and wanted to find out more about key MTB bike fit adjustments to ensure his riding position is as comfortable and efficient as possible.

The Luke guy from SQL Lab bears a striking resemblance to F1 driver Sebastian Vettel๐Ÿ˜œ

I've had lifestyle changing problems from using the wrong saddle. This video is such an eye opener, Thanks Rich!
  • For anyone who gets sore palms on long rides: This plagued me for years and about 18 months ago I tried the Ergon grips with the "wings" favoured by round the world type cyclists. GP1 is the model I have (It looked like SQ had something similar) but there's many different configurations/sizes. Its a complete winner and I don't have the pain anymore , quick easy and fairly cheap fix, that's made my ridding so much more enjoyable. ๐Ÿ™‚ Also bars with more back sweep like they said in the video was another winner for me. Hope this helps somebody out. ๐Ÿ‘
  • Great video with lots of helpful information. Keep up the great work
  • Wow what a fascinating video. I can't think of a YouTube video where I gained more valuable insight. I had no idea how much more information there was to account for when setting up my bike. Thank you sincerely
  • This is something Iโ€™ve struggled with for years being a taller rider. Only recently I have been able to an XXL frame and feel far more comfortable now. I may think about trying SQ labs out for a full fitting especially for the ebike
  • What a great experience to get to have! Bike fit definitely on my bucket list.

Definitely interested in more detail about ergonomic insoles

Brilliant ! Been trying to understand saddle comfort and setup for a long time. If my ass is not comfortable, I don't feel the discomfort is worth the ride. Especially when there's lots of climbing. Great video !

This is how to do a sponsored video. Engaging presenters passing on lots of very helpful information. ๐Ÿ‘

Great video!!! Best info ever! EVERYONE who rides needs to watch this.
  • It'd be great to see a video how difference in geo makes a difference to comfort and ride feel, e.g. stack height or reach
  • @patoberli
I also used the 611 on my MTB for some months, but I had to switch to an Ergon model. I also have now an Ergon on my road bike, but on the long-distance city bike I have one of the more comfortable SQ Lab ones and am very happy.
  • Rich, excellent video. Can you tell us what size seat is best for what size sit bones, and does it differ for each discipline?
  • I have been testing the SQLab 611 ERGOWAVE for the past month and also the CHROMAG Trailmaster LTD. Both feel great, but you definitely need to get the tilt dialed, as even the slightest over or under-tilt makes a big difference. Also, I am a huge believer in backswept bars. Been running 20 degree back-sweep, 780mm bars for quite a few years and they are just right for me.
