This show is like in high school when the “popular kids” pretended to befriend and gas up a “weird kid” when in reality they were just laughing at them behind their back. All of these judges and producers peaked in high school for sure

This has to have been someone’s villain origin story. No way it wasn’t
  • Not the judges using this as an excuse to just sexually harass women wtf is this 😭
  • @asleepeep
The guy wasn't even bad at singing, they just chose him cause he looks nerdy. This is just high school level bullying on a national level.
  • The make-a-wish part absolutely KILLED me. What the fuck 00's TV.

Why did it take them so long realize they had the wrong guy when he wasn’t Irish at all I’m crying

She was trying to save face by laughing along with it but honestly, it's so satisfying to be frank. In 9th grade it got out that I had a crush on this popular boy and everyone thought it was a freaking riot. In the middle of science class, I raised my hand to ask a question and the whole class burst into fits of giggling. My teacher was confused obviously and trying to play into it asking if he had a booger or something. In a clear, dispassionate voice I said, "No. They're laughing at me." It went dead quiet instantly. The point is, laughing along only makes mean-spirited people more comfortable. Letting them feel the tension created by their cruelty is the best reaction. It's a lesson I carried with me.
  • "cody, that's so mean." "I DIDN'T MAKE THE SHOW I DIDN'T MAKE THE FUCKIN--"

I love that every time Cody really likes one of Kelsey’s jokes he says “nice”

I was in 7th grade in the mid 80's...A group of "popular" kids got 2 guys who were mentally challenged to have a break dance competition in front of everyone in the gymnasium during lunch period. People were throwing coins at them and cheering them on and laughing. I'm 50 now and I still remember this as one of the most cruel and heartless things I've ever seen. That's what this show was.

This is legitimately psychotic. It's so malicious, I'm surprised they didn't have suicides because of their actions. I can guarantee these people had ptsd like issues after this.

Love how these shows were just like “sexual harassment is totally cool and funny.”
  • @lithium4246
See the Hot or Not show was fucked up but people knew, this is the saddest cruelest thing I’ve ever witnessed in my whole life.

I, no joke, genuinely loved the energy the guy was bringing to his second performance. The singing wasn't that bad and his energy pumped me up. I wish the best for both the contestants.

    I had a friend who went on American idol as one of the “bad singers”. Shes actually talented, she was just young and didn’t quite know how to fully control her voice, plus her nerves would get the best of her. So passing the auditions gave her this huge confidence boost, only to then be annihilated on the TV audition. She never sang again. So sad ;-;
  • @eboyjim
I love that Cody advertises therapy right before showing us this

imagine thinking that you're making a dying child's wish come true but you're actually unknowingly helping to publicly humiliate someone

After reading some articles and light research— Jamie: still believed she can be a superstar, was a little annoyed but ultimately says she’s glad she was able to get a makeover, stay in Hollywood for a couple weeks and received dancing lessons—she said she’d probably do it again even if she was in on the joke. Says she doesn’t need a good voice to be a superstar and had suspicions the show was fishy when she saw Mario for the first time, stating that “he didn't really have the image that was, um, you know, kind of... [Struggles to think of a nice way to say Mario's Swan material, then finally blurts out:] I thought he would be kind of like Clay Aiken!” before deciding she was going to win and blowing him off. Mario: it seems a little traumatized and in denial, tried to convince people they really were terminally ill to cope; eventually though, decided to keep trying with his dream believing his voice really was good enough, he might be divorced and looking for work—was a truck driver for a little bit. Mario enjoys Dance Dance Revolution, My Little Ponies; dislike Trump and radical feminism and HATES the producers of this show.

I feel worse for the girl. The dude seemed like he straight up doing it for himself, he had a good confidence. The girl seemed to really get her confidence from the judges praise. Felt harsher.
