Brought a cheap, old scan tool with me when I bought a used car a month ago. No check engine light was on, but I pulled 3 codes. Saved me $500 off the price he was asking.
  • Men like this who have spent their lives learning and dedicated to their craft, and, are willing to share that knowledge are absolute treasures. Thank You Scotty!

Scan tools on modern cars are mandatory. Otherwise you’re just shooting in the dark. Good luck!
  • Keep cranking these videos out Scotty! It doesn’t matter what the subject is-it’s new to me and I always learn something! You are a treasure of info for diy’ers. Tremendous thanks.
  • I bought a Blue Driver back when you first reviewed it. Last winter my check engine light came on in my Passat TDI and it had a hard time starting, especially in the cold. I plugged in the scanner, it told me it was the glow plugs were bad. I think it even told me which one it was. I ordered the parts and replaced all the glow plugs myself for good measure and it’s started great ever since 😃. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Scotty! I watch all your videos and it’s save me, my family, and friends a lot of headache and lost money.

I have cheap Sears scan tool and it really helps alot! Went to look at a used car and the guy says, No check engine! Plugged in the tool and it lit up like the Apollo 13 computer!
  • @jayhockley8841
Lots of dishonest people will disconnect the battery before you go check out the car they are selling . That ( temporarily) clears the check engine light UNTIL the monitors have time to reset them . A scanner will tell you if the Computer Monitors are set or not . Dont buy a car if the monitors are not set or you may have codes show up once they re-set .
  • love my blue driver! Need to give them to my kids as they leave the nest.
  • One thing he didn't mention is make sure your ignition is in the off position before plugging in or unplugging the scanner from your OBD port
  • @FaithwalkerTodd
We bought a scan tool on your advice quite a while back. Fortunately we had it with us when we were traveling with the class C RV on a Sprinter chassis. It kept going into limp mode, reducing our speed to a crawl. It turned out the fuel filter was dirty. Replacing it solved the problem. But if we weren’t able to reset and get out of limp mode it would have sucked.

My Bluedriver arrived today per your recommended tools link. Zeroed in on the service engine alert on my wife’s car within one minute of use. Small fix, $27 part, but she wants a garage to change the part. Next test will be driving the car around and see if anything else trips. Thank you Scotty!

I wonder how a used auto dealership would react to someone showing up to their lot with a scan tool. If they don't let you plug-in, that would tell you something.
