I test the new Aurora Pro under 3/4 moon in color and gray scale. I test them again after the moon has set to simulate a moonless night.

The Pro image is a bit darker, but looks ALOT sharper with better contrast - in all the scenes.
  • More than the image quality itself, I'm happy to see the reduction in lag in the image in those first seconds.

    I'm watching this cross-eyed. It's all in 3D. Loooool

There is a significant difference IMO compared to each other, maybe not compared to dedicated NVG systems, but the enhanced IR color is amazing.

Thank you for putting this up! Been trying to find a comparison video to help me make a decision. This has been really helpful!

Yeah, I think this video gives more justice to the Aurora Pro than others, but i'm not sure if it worth the additional 200$. Sometimes the "not contrasted" image of the Aurora gives better low light image than the Pro, but the Pro with sufficient light can beat up really hard the definition of the original. Nice to the the improvements, I think the next iteration of the product will bring the real change since the first one.

The vid, everyone in that Arfcom thread has been waiting for! Including, us banned lurkers 😄
  • Can't tell if it was your synching, but the Pro has less latency, which is a big deal in night vision, on top of sharper images and depth of color.

i came in here when looking for the aurora TR3B ;)

850nm can be too powerful for this camera. 940nm would be recommended. The CI7 light is actually a 940nm light. They are virtually identical in quality under that light.

so,what im seeing is that the pro has a slightly better picture when at 15fps 360p,definitly not worth that extra money

At the pace digital nv is moving, I'm going to wait a year or two. It should be gtg then.

I was told that updating firmware in other Auroras than PRO will make it much more closer to PRO. Can you try to do that? Edit: I see this video is 1 year old but still if you could update it with new firmware then it would be great! Thanks!
  • Being that you don't pull the trigger without properly identifying your target, that little bit of difference matters. I don't really see a difference in latency between them through but perhaps that doesn't really show in this video. Especially because it is a difference of a few milliseconds.

I would love to see some more footage.

Appreciate your videos and comparisons. I have the original Aurora and am considering picking up the Pro. I have 2 questions for you; Through the viewfinder in darker conditions do you see a difference berween the 1st gen Aurora and the Pro? Also, the 1st gen Aurora has a some Lag when looking through the viewfinder; Do you still notice the ‘Lag/Delay’ in the Pro? Thanks Much, Happy Easter and stay safe. “Trust in our Lord Jesus”

Thanks for the comparison video, I’m getting a Pro soon and just trying to pick the best illuminator for it so that I can use it while I do Astrophotography in case things tussle in the nearby bushes (is it a coyote or a rabbit?)
  • @JamesReedy
IQ is considerably improved, you could always bump the exposure compensation up on the Pro if you want it brighter. I think one of the big reasons to get the Pro is they're promising firmware updates to the units (for free) which are going to add AR features. They didn't specifically say aiming reticle (a man can hope) as I suspect that could create ITAR issues, but they mention maritime and sports uses. You also get a nice hard case with the Pro; that said I'm comparing an Aurora Black Vs Pro.

Hi there. I have the Pro, and am now shopping around for the recommended 940nm flashlight/illuminator; first of all, was that the wavelength of the IR flashlight you were using in the video? If so, what was the mW power of the LED? Again, if it was a 940nm illuminator, what brand & model was it? I am leaning towards a Nightcore C17 but it is 7500mW and there are 10k mW illuminators out there for less, wondering if you could give me your opinion if it would just be a waste of time as it would flood out all the detail, as you mentioned in your video. Any advice & information would be well appreciated. Thanks !!
