Leonard Cohen – So Long, Marianne

Come over to the window, my little darling,
I'd like to try to read your palm.
I used to think I was some kind of Gypsy boy
before I let you take me home.

So long, Marianne, it's time that we began
to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again.

You know I love to live with you,
but you make me forget so very much.
I forget to pray for the angels
and then the angels forget to pray for us.

We met when we were almost young
down by the green lilac park.
You held on to me like I was a crucifix,
as we went kneeling through the dark.

Your letters they all say that you're beside me now.
Then why do I feel so alone?
I'm standing on this  ledge and your fine spider web
is fastening my ankle to a stone.

Now I need your hidden love.
I'm cold as a new razor blade.
You left when I told you I was curious,
I never said that I was brave.

Oh, you are really such a pretty one.
I see you've gone and changed your name again.
And just when I climbed this whole mountainside,
to wash my eyelids in the rain!

Your eyes, I forget your eyes
You body is at home in every sea
How come you gave your news to everyone
when you said it was  a secret just for me

So long, Marianne, it's time that we began
to laugh and cry and cry and laugh about it all again.

  • We walked up steps in Hydra, Greece, to Leonard Cohen's house. I said to my wife, do you realize that this is the house where Leonard Cohen lived with Marianne? and kissed her on her lips? And wrote most of his famous songs...staring out over the Mediterranean Sea!

She made him forget his troubles. His eyes sparkle in the photos of him with Marianne.

"Im cold as a new razor blade" that sends a shiver through to your heart- There's only a handful songwriters that can transcend lyrics into poetry! RIP Mr Cohen.

The greatest of them all I met him with my wife in Hydra Greece. Great and humble man. No one could compose songs with poetry like him. We will never see his likes again. RIP my friend

Beautiful people make beautiful music. R.I.P. Leonard and Marianne..
  • You can't watch this video and listen to this song without wafting into reverie. It connects you with every wistful memory or feeling of love and longing. If there is one person universally loved for his music and his art, besides Charles Aznavour, it's Leonard Cohen. Thank you for such an outstanding photo montage. A work of love.

Looking at these beautiful photos makes me realize just how short life is. It's hard to believe this beautiful young couple is dead of old age. 😥⚘
