"Hi, Miyamoto here. We are finishing development on an interdimensional warp pipe that will take you to the Super Mario World in real life. More details will be shown in a Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow at 6:00 AM PDT/9:00 AM EST."
  • @skitsschist11
That tweet has the energy of the FBI declassifying a document that says "yeah that conspiracy theory was completely correct and we lied about it"
  • That tweet got ahead of all rumors. A new console is coming, a direct is in june, and the new console will not be featured in it. Immediately tempering expectations.

"This is Miyamoto. Please look forward to Super Mario Iliad, releasing next week. Get at me, Furukawa."
  • @thenpc8400
“Furukawa here, grabbing Taco Bell, also the switch 2 drops tomorrow.”
  • @kclem7
I think they were clearly trying to avoid the fallout of hosting another direct without announcing the new system. They had to give us something.
  • @ApapaneNui
Nintendo: We've got a Direct in June, and a new console is on the way. However, we won't reveal the console at the June Direct. Please temper your expectations and wait for further details.

June Direct Live-chat: This tweet can't stop me because I can't read!

To be fair, this is an extremely Nintendo thing to do
  • @Marlotix
The announcement was made in the middle of Nintendo's quarterly investors meeting last night, and then subsequently tweeted out. That's what happened with the Zelda movie as well. It wasn't as random and out of the blue as people think. In this case, they had to bring it up because this was their end-of-fiscal-year report and they had to share their plans for the next fiscal year to investors.

"hey everyone we are having a baby bye..... and the next time we get together we won't talk about it"
  • @Alpha-oo8
I recon this is more a “we need to please investors” move.
Like announcing the direct this early, probably announced to reassure investors that, yes, there are actually games releasing after June.

You know what shareholders are like
  • Arlo's theory of Nintendo having cheeky fun by dropping massive announcements casually and nonchalantly reminds me of that one Tumblr post where someone said if they woke up in the body of Taylor Swift, they'd get on Instagram live, take some rips off a bong live to Taylor's fans, and just watch the comments.
  • I love the idea that all the major people at Nintendo have access to their Twitter account and can just make these announcements whenever they feel like it lol
  • @DisableYT
The Twitter feud is all fun an games until Miyamoto tweets "Pikmin 5 is very close to completion."
  • @darcidious99
"Oh hey we're going to be having a june direct talking about games in the latter half of 2024!...

Oh yeah and I guess we're also gonna talk about the next console eventually, no big deal or anything".
  • @lucasgeorg1214
I once saw someone say that 2024 is just a giant unskippable ad, and I think he was completely right lmao
  • @ASMRDoodlez
Yes, we have a new console.
No, we're not showing it to you.
    Good day.
  • @godzilla154
News so big it had to be on the main channel
  • I appreciate that you didn't title this something like "Nintendo Confirms Switch 2" like everyone else seems to be doing. No, Nintendo didn't say anything about it being a Switch 2 specifically, they just said it was a new console.
  • This was the most Nintendo way they could have made a huge announcement like this.
