Rare Olds Opera SN# 259383 from Fullerton around the year 1958 Vintage Olds Opera Trumpet in 90% original finish. This instrument It has a slightly larger .468 bore and possesses a commanding sound. The nickel plated bell gives this instrument a bit of an edge while the large bore gives it the power. Olds manufactured very strong, sturdy well made horns. Many pro builders copied Olds and sons design and ask them for assistance. This Opera Model was one of Olds top of the line symphonic horns. The valves are tight and lightning fast. Excellent compression. Water keys on both tuning 3rd valve slides. The tone and intonation are excellent! Comes with original hard case.

You are the first and only video or audio online of the Olds Opera. This will likely be as close as most will ever get to hearing one of these. I am so glad that I got to hear an Opera played by someone that can actually play well!!! What a treat that was!!!

I bought one of these new in 1960 for $350.00; my first trumpet after switching from clarinet. That price sounds cheap today but not so when you consider that my college band director, a full professor, was making only $8,600/year and a new Cadillac was about $5,000. The Opera was a nice horn but too big for me I'm sure. Good to see one again.

Who played and/or endorsed the Opera trumpet back in the day?

Was that the HT3JAZZ jazz mouthpiece? Definitely gave that smokey flavor.
