As an oldie that grew up with these golden NES carts, it’s nice to see younger folks enjoying them! Zelda 2 crushed many a child’s dreams 🤣

7:08 That's my favorite easter egg, the entire area from the first game (lower hyrule) is all tucked away below death mountain there. Gives the world a whole new perspective when you realize how much ground link is covering when he walks from place to place.

I’m 38 now and I’ve played this game since before I could really even play it. It’s nice to see people in a new generation enjoy these classics. I’ve introduced them to my own young children and I hope they will love them overtime too

Funny thing about the town named Mido in Adventure of Link and the name not corresponding to a sage in Ocarina of Time, in the version of Ocarina of Time that was shown at Spaceworld, the medallions were called the Sage's Seals (the Fire Medaillion was called Darunia's Seal for example). The item that would go on to be called the Shadow Medallion was called Mido's Seal.
  • In Z1, gettting hit by a white bubble (temporary loss of sword use) is on an internal timer. If you get hit, and blow the flute, that'll be enough time to use your sword again. Basically a pause to let you sword come back.

The original game’s level one locked door thing is actually a glitch. The way the game knows to keep an unlocked door open is if you went through it, or in other words, which side of the screen you walked off. Because you walked off the bottom of the screen to leave the level, when you load back into the level, the game says, “hey, you walked off the bottom side, so the top door should be open”

Wow, after all these years I had no idea about the manual save in Zelda 1. My mind is blown. Awesome video!
  • @SassageLink83
Good video! One correction for you. The grave heart container in 2nd quest Zelda 1 doesn't require the power bracelet. You can push it at any time. Also, you should do a similar style video for the exploitable glitches in these 2 games. A lot of people are just learning about block clipping, screen scrolls, fairy clipping, etc. I think it would be a good introductory style of video for a lot of the people getting familiar with seeing or using the glitches. I love seeing people NOT in their 40's and 50's getting in to the NES era! Lol

Nice video! One thing that might be worth a mention is, in Zelda 2, if you jump above the screen (using the Jump spell while on a high roof or something), and cast Fairy while you're off screen, it makes the game freak out. You end up in weird towns, or pallette-swapped dungeons, and leaving takes you to random places. Once back in the day, I left a glitched town and emerged way off in the ocean somewhere.

Heh, I did mostly know these, but nice video. I often wonder if the Error/Bug thing was also kind of a pun on the name Errol. Like you'd read it in katakana and go "Oh Errol? like Errol Flynn?" then you would see Bug and go "oh.. no. It was Error." If you're taking video ideas, while I can't think of any specific secrets that mustn't be missed, I could see you maybe following up "Did it Survive" with something like "What's new?" which would cover the enemies that are new to each game, whether they ever came back again or were one-offs...

2 important things missed in this video: (1) Keep 1 enemy alive in each screen in the overworld. The others will never respawn. (2) The Pols Voice dies instantly with the arrow. One of the old wise men gives you this hint.
  • @Buhjr
Error changed his message when talking to another NPC at a different village then go back to Error.
  • As someone who has been playing these games almost since the day they came out, I figured there was no way I was going to hear something I didn't know. Nicely done, you proved me wrong! 😁 I had not heard of talking to a fairy before you Up+A save to start with full health next time. Something else with the faries if you are going to recover more than about 4 hearts hit Select right as your hearts start to fill. The screen will pause but your hearts continue to refill. Once they refill the screen unpauses and as soon as the heart ring completes it disappears, letting you leave right away rather than standing there while the heart ring circles around you for a few seconds. In AoL a number of map tiles have fights that are triggered when you step on them (i.e. the path to Darunia). These fights are typically more difficult than the fights from colliding with the roaming monsters. If you can time it so you step on the tile at the same time you collide with a monster you'll get the easier monster fight and bypass the "scripted" one. Thanks for the entertaining video!! Looking forward to more!! 😄

I played these games in the 80s, and beat them both. I bet they're much easier with save states.
  • 7:13 - WOW!!! I've been a fan of these two games since childhood, and am 45 now. I knew that Spectacle Rock was a corresponding location between the two games. Somehow, I always thought that in the second game, the entire area south of Death Mountain in which the first game took place had been flooded or something. It never really dawned on me that the tiny little area south of Death Mountain in the second game was actually a miniaturized version of the ENTIRE MAP of the first game!!!
  • @alexblack3200
One of the heart containers in the second quest is in the level 4 after you beat the boss, the room with the triforce walk through the false wall to the north
  • Many actually do not know that Reflect spell blocks items Link cannot normally block. Many think it's just for reflecting the wizard attack.
  • @SECONDQUEST
I think the fact that the Zelda in Zelda 2 is not the same Zelda but it's the same Link is crazy cool. You may have missed that
  • Finally, someone that also knows stuff about the first Zelda
