Billionaire. Playboy. Philanthropist. CRIMINAL?! Wait, what? Okay maybe it’s obvious that Tony Stark hasn’t had the “best” business practices. But what you may not know is that war profiteering is not the worst of his crimes. In fact, he should probably be facing LIFE in prison! But to see his full sentence, you’ll have to watch this episode.

The fact that the Billionaire doesn't get arrested is the most realistic part of the movies.
  • @Canzary
This episode is literally just MatPat having the same realizations JJJ had about Spiderman

tony being forced to give money to government because his suit considered as private airplane is pretty funny
  • I always figured that they just assumed they had no way of containing stark in a prison cell. no matter what punishment they would try to enforce im sure tony would just be like "nah" they would have no way of containing that man so they just left him alone and figured "well at least hes sort of on our side"
  • He's not the only one who breaks a lot of laws. Pretty much every superhero could be walloped on several laws being broken.
  • Realistically the most likely reason Tony isn't charged with any crimes is because of Nick Fury. SHIELD has a lot of sway in the MCU and seems to operate on their own terms in many cases. Fury's contact with Tony at the end of the first movie was probably not only enough to get him as an agent of SHIELD but also make sure any crimes he committed were considered justifiable under the conditions they were in.
  • Nicolas cage said it perfectly. He “did what was considered wrong, in order to do what he knew was right” — national treasure
  • The funny thing is all his tech is most likely protected by patterns and permits through his family business, so there's one hurdle; second, he is super wealthy and can most likely buy his way out of most trouble; and finally, if all else fails he has connections that can get him safely off-world to a place where his tech and general brilliance will be respected!
  • It’s always been a bit weird that Spider-Man was basically kidnapped to make a child soldier, especially without aunt may knowing.

I would LOVE a Film Theory episode on repulsors - more specifically the science behind them, how they work, and how practical they could be for a flight suit.

Getting away from Tony, have yall ever noticed that Loki's eyes were blue, like he was being mind controlled, during the first Avengers movie? MatPat, we need a theory on this
  • @ganeshprasad3936
Even thoe Tony did mistakes, he realised and immediately closed his weapon manufacturing division when he saw his weapons were going into wrong hands. Speaking of Rules he proved in Iron Man 2. The court itself kept quiet and didn't have an answer. When Peter messed up in the ship wreck. See the way how Tony taught him be more responsible. While the other Avengers gave their life to save people. Tony not only made the Avengers win the war but also sacrificed his life for it. If Tony wanted he could have sit happily and enjoyed his wealth for lifetime. The amount of wealth he has could also support 2 generations after Tony without doing anything. That is his greatness inspite if having everything he cared for others as well
  • RDJ improvising "I am Iron Man" was one of the best moves in the MCU. Just imagining the series where its him doubling back constantly and trying to portray Tony Stark and Iron Man separately like a secret identity would have likely ended up a weird bungled mess. Especially considering how he was one of the few people in the world at the time with the means, money, and knowhow to do it, and in the right circumstance. I cant imagine him trying to constantly play that off.
  • I feel like this would be an interesting mini series. Going over the crimes each of the heroes have done throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • @Puckett.
The government knew he was Iron Man well before the "I am Iron Man" scene. Rhodey knew pretty much right away. The government knew maybe 10 minutes later. The only thing the "I am Iron Man" scene did was let the public know. But the public already had extremely reliable rumors that he was Iron Man. They just hadn't heard it yet from the horses mouth.
  • I hate that everyone gives Tony a hard time about Peter. Even if Tony never got involved peter would have still been spider man as we saw. Tony knew this and gave him better gear to PROTECT him better, he didn't encourage anything he just brought out what was already there it a more guided way then what would have happened if he was never there.
  • @leiilei5440
I actually think the iconic line "I am Iron-man" is his real life legal loophole for keeping his suits privatized. he is identifying himself as the iron-man and making no seperation legally between himself and his suits, an individual can not be legally considered a weapon because that would involve legally labeling them as property, and so by claiming that he is iron-man and therefor the suits are an extension of himself he is creating a legal loophole to prevent the government from seizing anything.
  • @Shythalia
Remember that near the end of the first movie, S.H.I.E.L.D planned on helping him to cover up the fact that he was the Iron Man. They gave him those speech card things (I forget what they're called) to help him with denying that he was Iron Man. A government agency secretly helping a billionaire be free of what he did in that first movie.
  • @britishguy54dx
Tony may have also broken in-universe laws surrounding the Sokovia Accords, in relation to harbouring Peter’s identity of Spider-Man. (Peter deliberately made sure to keep his identity secret, a violation of the Sokovia Accords).
  • @-JohnDoe-
The later conclusion actually makes a lot of sense. As well as the guilt you touched on in the beginning for some of the bad things he did, Tony probably had to go out of his way to fawn on the government in order to keep his equipment and freedom.
