Woodworker here, and will give some advice. While it may look pretty, the design is not based on how the wood moves. Length wise, wood does not shrink hardly at all, but width wise... You can have over 4% shrinkage or expansion of the board. Short distance width runs can be ok, but big width runs need to be accounted for. On one end, you have long grain connecting the table, and through the middle to the other end, you have the grain running grain with cookies. As soon as the cookies start drying, they will pull away from each other, because they will want to shrink into smaller cookies. And with the entire middle of the table designed around the cookies, the whole table will pull apart. The cuts on the boards will shrink width ways, but not long ways, while the cookies will shrink all around. It may take longer, but it would also function a lot better, but run the long grain slates down the entire thing. You may still have some movement, because green wood moves, but it will not rip itself apart from uneven shrinkage at the joints.

Absolutely fascinating to watch, a lovely rustic table that is all natural wood and unique.
  • I think it’s beautiful and over time once aged it will be stunning. I would have that in my garden.

The design is really beautiful! Structurally, there will be some serious concerns raised by the table being built from green wood and the "bow-ties" in the center being made of end-grain. All together, it's likely to see some warping and cracking over the next year or two.

What was the moisture content of the wood before starting? Do you have a picture of it two months after build?
