Honda EU2000i Propane Converstion - Why I switched to Propane

Published 2020-09-30
In this video, I’ll discuss why I converted my Honda EU2000i gas generator to propane. After a bit of research, I settled on the tri-fuel conversion kit for Hutch Mountain.

Yessir! I converted my EU2200i to propane from Hutch Mountain and it's been flawless. No more 1-gallon gas tank run time limitations, no more worries about static electricity (living in dry AZ), no more carrying gas and dealing with fumes or a gunked up carburetor, and the best part of propane is how simple it is to adjust the regulator for elevation changes (camping in AZ, I can go from 500' to 8,500'+ elevation), which means no more carburetor jet changes. Buy a Honda, convert it to propane, go camping with your BBQ tank, get runtime of 50+ hours for a weekend of heating and cooking, and it'll only cost you less than $15 ($3/gallon) to refill the tank so you can do it again next weekend. This setup powers my Aliner popup camper on my camping trips, and with the Honda electronics, I have no problem trusting plugging in my phone, tablet, laptop and other devices for clean sine-wave charging. Solid win all around for my use, and probably yours. Cheers! Pete

Enjoyed the review. Fun fact. I’ve watched some of your HAM videos over the past year. I just became interested in dual fuel generator. Did a YT search, and you showed up!

I just recently purchased the hutch mountain kit for my eu22000i, every video I come across says that you don’t need to have choke on. But the manual says choke off is to the right where the arrow is pointing. Not where it says choke? Please verify. Thanks.
  • Nicely done. Curious how the next level propane system compares to a similarly sized Solar system. I still like the idea of having Solar and batteries.

I like the change over for the smaller Watt generators and inverters but the larger ones (i.e.. Powerful enough to run a whole house) give me concerns about the consumption rate of LPG. 5500 rated running Watts for example would run about 8.5 hrs. on a 20 lb. bottle. There is a chart on line explaining the consumption rates for different power generators. What do you think about that?

I also converted my EU2000 to propane. I wouldn't go back. I have city water so no real need for a 240 volt generator. My EU2000 will easily run the essentials including 2 freezers, fan on wood stove, lights in the house and a crock pot. It will even run my 240 volt water heater by it self but since it is at half voltage it will be at 1/4 the power (must be comfortable hard wiring it). I have a 500 gallon propane tank with a connector on the house so depending how late in winter I need the fuel I should have plenty. If you think things through you can often get by with a much smaller and quieter generator.
  • Good morning! Just heard on Kold 13 that AZ is in a dangerous drought situation compounded by a threat of our CAP water drying up-ish. Puts us in line for CA like fires, etc. Have you purchased a Berkey system yet? Ours is on the way.
  • What’s the verdict on this kit after a year? Looking to purchase the same kit and will be using your affiliate link.

What is the button on top that was installed next to the port connection?
  • Hey Gaston, A year later, have you used this generator much? Looks like California is going to ban these small generators in the gas configuration and I'm looking for alternatives given SoCal Edison isn't hugely reliable in my area.

How much adjustment of the Garretson regulator is required to get it to run smoothly on both full and eco-throtlle" ? What kind of warranty do they 'offer'?
